In Baldur’s Gate 3, numerous items can be collected throughout your journey to enhance the build of your Tav and their companions. These items range from Armor, Weapons, Amulets, Rings, Boots, and Gloves, each of which can provide Magical buffs, de-buffs on opponents, or skills that synergize with certain Races and Classes.
Among the many items available in Baldur’s Gate 3, there is Killer’s Sweetheart, a ring that makes an excellent addition to many fiercely offensive builds. However, the Killer’s Sweetheart is only available to grab during one encounter in Baldur’s Gate 3‘s Act 2, so knowing how to obtain this item is key.
Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Get Twist of Fortune
Twist of Fortune is a powerful Morningstar in Baldur’s Gate 3 that can be acquired during Act 2 by going up against a powerful enemy.
How to Get Killer’s Sweetheart in Baldur’s Gate 3
Killer’s Sweetheart is a powerful Baldur’s Gate 3 ring that enables offensive, high-damage dealing characters to be even further enhanced by securing an extra critical hit after killing an opponent. However, this ring is only obtainable during a very certain encounter within Act 2.
Therefore, to retrieve this item, you will first need to work your way through Act 1, progress to the Shadow-Cursed Lands, and make your way to the Gauntlet of Shar. The best way to do this is by visiting Moonrise Towers and retrieving the Find Balthazar quest from Z’rell.
The Gauntlet Of Share’s Self-Same Trial
After arriving in the Gauntlet of Shar and taking on the challenge, you will have to complete several Trials along the way. Thankfully, the Killer’s Sweetheart ring can be obtained during one of these Trials, known as the Self-Same Trial. To reach the room in which this Trial is held, feel free to refer to the map screenshot below, which indicates where it can be found within the Gauntlet of Shar.
After arriving in this room and offering your blood to the statue, the door behind you will lock, forcing you to progress into the next room. Upon entering this room, you will be faced with a unique combat battle – against clones of yourself and your party members. This means that these clones will have the same powerful weapons and abilities that you have equipped with your party, so you’ll need to be smart in how you approach each enemy. If you can, you should focus on punishing any significant weaknesses your characters may have; for example, closing in on a squishy caster with your tank, and then downing them with multiple attacks.
After successfully defeating each of the clones and completing the battle, head up the stairs to the middle section of the floor. Next to the brazier, you will notice a ring lying on the ground, dropped by your clone.
This ring is Killer’s Sweetheart, so go ahead and pick it up to add to your inventory or equip it with one of your builds. After equipping it to a character, they will now gain the passive Executioner skill enabling you to score an automatic critical hit on your next attack after killing an enemy, once per Short Rest.

Killer’s Sweetheart Perks & Skills
- Executioner: When you kill a creature, your next Attack Roll will be a Critical Hit. Once spent, this effect refreshes after a Long Rest.
To make the most of the Killer’s Sweetheart ring, you will want to equip it to a character who is likely to deal a lot of damage in a single turn of combat, making it the most frequent contender for achieving kills. This is because the Executioner perk will only activate after killing a target, ensuring the next attack is a Critical Hit. There are a few Classes, in particular, that can make the most of this opportunity:
- Assassin Rogue: Assassin Rogues can use multiple attacks in a turn from range or melee, dealing extra damage through surprise rounds and Sneak Attack. This makes an Assassin the perfect contender for Killer’s Sweetheart.
- Gloomstalker Ranger: For similar reasons to the Assassin Rogue, the Gloomstalker Ranger is a brilliant choice for Killer’s Sweetheart. After level 5, the Gloomstalker will get two attacks per action and will be able to use their Gloomstalker Hide function to sneak around and trigger surprise rounds before combat, earning opportunities to deal extra damage. In addition to this, Gloomstalkers receive a free extra ‘Gloomstalker Attack’ on the first round of every combat, meaning they can often pick off at least one target by themselves during the opening round.
- Battlemaster Fighter: Battlemaster Fighters are some of the most powerful offensive damage dealers, dishing out up to four main attacks in a turn with action surge after level five, and up to six main attacks in a turn after level 9. This makes them highly capable of finishing off single targets or delivering killing blows, which will activate the Executioner perk from Killer’s Sweetheart.
- Berserker Barbarian: Some of the best Berserker Barbarian builds in the game turn this Class into the most efficient damage dealer you’ll have on your team – especially combinations that include Tavern Brawler with thrown attacks or weapons, such as the Returning Pike. As this build scales, the Berserker Barbarian can gain up to six attacks in a single turn, which makes them highly capable of picking off single targets. Because of this, the Killer’s Sweetheart may fit very nicely into this build.
- Oath of Vengence Paladin: Oath of Vengence Paladins have two Attacks per Action at level 5, and the Haste Spell at level 9. When paired with various Smites, this enables the Paladin to dish out huge damage per turn, which makes them a worthy contender for Killer’s Sweetheart – especially if you’re playing them as your brawly offensive tank build.
