Project Rene marks the next era in The Sims franchise. Although it will not replace The Sims 4, it will introduce new features, including a multiplayer mode. The game is still in early development, and it is set to release on PC and mobiles.

The idea of multiplayer in the world of The Sims is enticing. There are plenty of ways for this to go right, but it could also be disastrous if not handled correctly. Hopefully, Maxis gets things right and manages to provide players with a multiplayer experience that enhances Project Rene.

Civilization 7 and The Sims 5 both have a similar path to walk in order to be worthy successors to their highly successful franchises.

Marriages and Families in Project Rene’s Multiplayer

The Sims isn’t just about creating singular Sims; it is also about creating friendships, relationships, and families between each of these player-made characters. It would be great if this extended into the multiplayer realm. Players should be allowed to form relationships and marriages with other real-world players, and even create families of Sims collaboratively.

This would expand the complexity of the multiplayer mode. Instead of players simply seeing each other in the same world, they’ll be able to interact in interesting ways. Of course, this will come with the complicated aspects of marriage in The Sims such as divorce, but that’s just part of the fun and realism.

Project Rene and Discord Integration

If players are going to be interacting, Simlish isn’t going to be a favorable way to communicate with each other. Hence, Project Rene should integrate Discord to allow players to communicate with each other and synchronize their play sessions. It’s aided a lot of other games, such as Among Us, and Project Rene could benefit from it too.

Project Rene Should Let Players Be Invisible While Playing

The idea of multiplayer in Project Rene is exciting, but as Maxis has highlighted, this won’t mean the upcoming game is going to be an MMO. Instead, players will be able to choose when they play online and when they enjoy traditional Sims gameplay alone. This is perhaps the best way to handle multiplayer, as there will be several players who aren’t interested in having others enter their private worlds.

With that said, players should be allowed to be invisible when playing so that they aren’t badgered by friends who want to engage in multiplayer gameplay. It can be fun for friends to know when other friends are playing so that they can invite them, but this can quickly turn into an annoyance if that’s not what a player is currently interested in doing. A simple invisible mode would solve the problem.

Project Rene Players Should be Able to Share Items

It isn’t easy stacking Simoleons, but it’s necessary if players want to buy nice things. With multiplayer, players should be able to share or gift the items they’ve acquired instead of simply deleting anything they no longer want. A barter system could even be introduced where players can sell items they don’t need anymore to friends.

It’ll be interesting to see how multiplayer is implemented in Project Rene, and whether it enhances the game or is a nuisance. The Sims feels like the perfect platform to try out the multiplayer format, as instead of socializing with NPCs, players will now be able to socialize with real people. With the addition of the discussed features, multiplayer could be one of the best aspects of Project Rene.
