Jujutsu Kaisen: Did Gojo Make A Binding Vow To Return?

Gojo might have sacrificed his right eye to return in JJK. Did Satoru use a binding vow?

Of course, fans have many questions on their minds pertaining to Gojo and his return, and one of the most important ones is how strong Gojo would be right now in the story. Of course, fans know that Gojo was in a league of his own before his death. However, the experience of death might have changed him somewhat and affected his level of strength.

Gojo’s Strength Prior To His Death

Gojo Was A Monster On Sukuna’s Level Before Death

It goes without saying that Gojo Satoru was one of the strongest individuals in the entire series prior to his death. At the very beginning, it was made very clear to the fans that Gojo was one of the strongest Sorcerers of all time. In fact, in the modern era, no sorcerer even came close to Gojo in terms of strength. The only sorcerer who could come close to Gojo was the strongest sorcerer in history and the King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna. That is precisely why a battle was set up between these two titans, and it did well to showcase their full capabilities to the fans as well. Gojo unleashed his arsenal of techniques on Sukuna, and the latter did the same.

In terms of cursed technique, my Limitless is far superior!!

Simply put, in this battle, it was confirmed that the laws of normal Jujutsu sorcery did not apply to these two monsters and that they were on a completely different level compared to the others, and that even understanding what they did was useless in many instances. When it comes to strength, both Gojo and Sukuna were even in this battle. Of course, Sukuna ended up winning the battle, however, it must be noted that he did have the aid of Mahoraga and the 10 Shadows Technique by his side. It is because of this technique that he was able to get a blueprint to bypass Infinity and cut down Gojo.

It was a hard-fought battle even then, and fans cannot deny the fact that Gojo and Sukuna were neck and neck, despite the former losing the battle. While Gojo certainly was on a completely different level back then, this might not be true right now in the story. This is simply down to the fact that the strongest sorcerer has had to come back from death, and potentially be healed as well.

Gojo’s Return In Shinjuku

Gojo Has Seemingly Made His Return In Shinjuku

In Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 260, fans got a massive shocker towards the end. As the battle between Sukuna and the sorcerers continued, fans were eagerly waiting for Yuji to deliver a powerful blow. This was facilitated by Todo, using the power of his vibraslap, which hugely upgraded upon his Boogie Woogie cursed technique. Yuji was able to land a powerful black flash on the King of Curses, and eventually, stab him directly through his chest and attempted to rip his heart out. Of course, Sukuna wouldn’t just stand and watch this happen. He decided to expand his domain once again and end the battle for good. By making the same palm sign that he did the previous time, Sukuna was moments away from ending the battle. However, just then, his eyes turned towards a different individual who appeared from the smoke. This individual turned out to be none other than the strongest modern sorcerer, Gojo Satoru.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Why Gojo’s Return Makes Perfect Sense

Gojo’s return was long awaited in JJK. Here’s why it makes perfect sense.

Sukuna had seen…what his hands had buried. The ghost of the strongest!

Even though fans believed that Gojo had died, here he was, right in front of Sukuna once again. The editor even went on to say that these eyes are unmistakable, meaning that this person indeed is Gojo in the flesh. Sadly, that is precisely where the chapter ended and fans do not know how the story is going to proceed from here onwards. However, there are inevitably going to be countless questions on the fans’ minds and one of them is going to be pertaining to his strength, which is obviously going to be very different from before.

How Strong Is Gojo After Revival?

Gojo’s Revival Will Have Weakened Him Considerably

Gojo Satoru is most likely not going to be as strong as he was before his death. For one, Gojo will not be at full strength and that is a given. There is no time for him to be healed to his very best and, as a result, fans should not expect Gojo to be at his full strength. This also serves the narrative, because if Gojo would be at his best, then the battle against Sukuna would end within a few panels at best. Sukuna is considerably weaker right now. His cursed technique has been weakened, reverse cursed technique is incredibly slow at this point in time, and he has taken quite a lot of damage as well. Similarly, Gojo has to be at a relative level in order for this battle to be exciting. If he’s too strong, then Sukuna will simply lose the battle immediately and the final fight will essentially be ruined. For that purpose alone, Gojo cannot be at his full strength.

However, that certainly isn’t all. Fans should also keep in mind that returning from death is not a small thing that one can just overlook. If Gojo is returning, he must have given something up. It is entirely possible for Gojo to have made a Binding Vow in order to return, and his life could have come at the cost of the Six Eyes, or at least one of them, as was apparent on the last page of the chapter. Gojo’s right eye seems to be missing, and this could have been the price for his life. If his Six Eyes are missing, then Gojo will, naturally, be weaker. His cursed energy efficiency will have dropped much more, meaning that the same techniques that once required a very small amount of cursed energy to activate, would now require a significantly higher amount.

At the same time, Gojo could simply be physically weaker at this point in time. He is far from fresh, which means that his level of strength will have dropped considerably. Regardless of which way fans look at it, Gojo is not going to be the same person that he once was. He might still be the strongest of the modern sorcerers at this point in time and potentially even on the injured Sukuna’s level, but not the same as before. Furthermore, if Gojo was too strong here, then Yuji would be completely overshadowed, and that is something that the author will most certainly look to avoid, for obvious reasons. Gojo’s strength is going to be as much as the plot demands it to be, and right now, the author has to play it in a way where Yuji and the strongest go on to team up and dazzle together.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of JJK, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 261, is set to be May 26, 2024.
