Pokemon Player Catches Rare Shiny Pokemon After 10 Years

A Pokemon player has caught a shiny Shaymin, ending a 10-year hunt. The player explained the strategy she used to get shiny Shaymin and showed the exciting moment when she found the Mythical Pokemon, getting warm reactions from the Pokemon community.

Shaymin is a Pokemon featured in Gen 4 that, although it doesn’t evolve from or into any other monster, is distinguished by having two forms. The most common is the Land Forme, in which Shaymin has the appearance of a hedgehog, first seen in the movie Pokemon: Giratina and The Sky Warrior. Shaymin’s first appearance in the Pokemon anime was in Pokemon the Series: Diamond and Pearl, in which the Pokemon unlocks its Sky Forme, a form that looks like a canine with fur on its head that forms a mohawk. Shaymin is a Pokemon loved by many Pokemon fans, but one in particular shared her adorable story with the Pokemon.

A YouTuber called Shiny Catherine captured a rare shiny Shaymin after 10 years and published a video on her channel telling how the experience went. In the video, she tells how she got the critter while playing Pokemon Brilliant Diamond, one of the Sinnoh remakes, repeating the encounter with Shaymin in Flower Paradise countless times until the Pokemon appeared in its shiny variant. After releasing a lucky Dive Ball, Shiny Catherine finally succeeds in capturing the shiny Shaymin, which is her favorite Pokemon and the reason she started playing Pokemon games.

Catching a shiny Shaymin is a tricky process for Pokemon players, as this variant of shiny Shaymin is usually locked by Game Freak, making it impossible for trainers to obtain it. While it is possible to get a shiny Shaymin in Pokemon GO, when it comes to the mainline Pokemon games, the only way to find this version of the Grass-type Pokemon is by playing Pokemon Brilliant Diamond or Pokemon Shining Pearl. The hunt for shiny Shaymin is still a challenge that involves a combination of patience and luck, as according to Shiny Catherine, the odds of the Pokemon appearing are one in 4096.

As well as appearing in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl, Shaymin is found in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Released in 2022, Pokemon Legends: Arceus takes players back to Hisui in gameplay that mixes action and RPG. Along with Pokemon like Regigigas and Cresselia, Shaymin was one of the few critters that hadn’t appeared in any game’s Regional Pokedex since Pokemon Platinum, which only changed in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
