In Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, players will find a number of new allies. The Followers of Miquella have journeyed to the Land of Shadows to seek out the Kind Empyrean and discern his goals. As the story continues, players will be able to interact with each of these Followers as they pursue their own goals and learn the truth of Miquella’s journey to the Land of Shadows.
One Follower of Miquella who speaks very little in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is Dryleaf Dane. This Martial Artist can first be encountered at the Moorth Ruins in Scadu Altus, continuing to appear as an ally throughout the game up until you reach the final Legacy Dungeon of the DLC. Naturally, this guide will contain spoilers, though they’ll be tagged wherever possible.

How To Craft Festive Grease In Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree
Festive Grease gives players a great way to farm runes in Elden Rign: Shadow Of The Erdtree; here’s how to craft it.
Step 1: Reaching Scadu Altus
To start Dryleaf Dane’s Quesline you’ll need to have access to Scadu Altus, which means either defeating Rellana or taking the alternative route southeast and using a Spirit Spring to reach the Fort of Reprimand. To do this, take the path southeast from the Castle Ensis’ entrance and find the Elder’s Hovel. There’s a Spiritspring near here that can be unsealed by breaking a pile of rocks nearby, which allows you to launch upward and reach the Fort of Reprimand. Fight through the Fort of Reprimand to gain access to the rest of Scadu Altus. This second method is a lot easier, despite the complexity, because you don’t need to fight a boss to exit the Fort.
Step 2: Highroad Cross and Moorth Ruins
After making it to Scadu Altus, you’ll need to head for the Highroad Cross Site of Grace to pick up a crucial gesture. At the Highroad Cross Site of Grace you can find the “Monk’s Missive” lying on the ground. Picking it up will unlock the “May the Best Win” gesture too, which we’ll need to solve this riddle. The Missive says “Seek me to the east if you wish to pursue the way of the warrior. When you find me, you will challenge me to a bout. There is no need for words.” This is telling you what you need to do in order to get Dryleaf Dane to react to you in any way. Go and find him at Miquella’s Cross in the Moorth Ruins, then use the “May the Best Win” gesture to challenge him to a fight.
Step 3: Dueling Dryleaf Dane
To beat Dryleaf Dane, you’ll need to be wary of his rapid melee attacks and Ring of Light Incantations. The former help him to dish out damage and can easily stun you if you pick a bad moment to cast a spell or chug a flask. The latter give him ranged options and will return to him after travelling outward for a bit, potentially striking you a second time if you don’t pay attention to them. The final attack to be wary of is “Palm Blast”, the Weapon Art Dane is using on his Dryleaf Arts. This charged burst gives him incredible poise while charging and can deal a devastating amount of damage in a small area in front of him, so it’s best to back away when he tries to use it.
Keep these things in mind and he won’t be too hard to beat, he’s fast but lacks armor.
Step 4: Dryleaf Arts, Dane’s Armor, and Dane’s Aid
After beating Dane, he’ll leave the Dryleaf Arts Weapon and a hat for you, alongside a message encouraging you to keep training and improving. His summon sign will now appear outside Romina, Saint of the Bud’s Boss Room in the Ancient Ruins of Rauh, allowing you to bring his martial mastery to bear in the boss fight.
You can also find the rest of Dane’s Armor now by traveling south from the Ruins of Unte. These ruins can be accessed via a hidden path in the Shadow Keep, in the area accessible after defeating the Golden Hippo and just before the Specimen Warehouse. Once you reach the Ruins of Unte, you can travel south and follow the river (and past some waterfalls), eventually reaching the Recluses’ River Downstream Site of Grace. From here you’ll need to use the coffins sticking out of the nearby cliff to reach the top of a third Waterfall. Travel North from here to reach the bottom of another Waterfall, likely the one Dryleaf Dane enjoys training under, and snag the rest of Dane’s Set from beneath it.
Step 5: One Last Test (Spoilers for the Final Legacy Dungeon)
The final step in this questline comes once you’ve defeated Romina, Saint of the Bud, and burned the Sealing Tree. This unlocks the final Legacy Dungeon of the DLC: Enir-Ilim. After ascending Enir-Ilim, itself no easy task, you’ll face off with Needle Knight Leda and any of her allies who remained loyal to Miquella in the aftermath of his charm breaking. This will always include Dryleaf Dane, now wielding Dane’s Footwork and using the Ash of War: Dryleaf Whirlwind .
After taking down Needle Knight Leda and her allies, you can loot Dryleaf Dane’s body at the entrance of the room to collect Dane’s Footwork. If you want the Dryleaf Whirlwind Ash of War, however, you’ll need to seek it out in the Ancient Ruins of Rauh.
