A Fallout fan took to social media to share a map of the United States, highlighting the settings that the series has touched upon and showing what remains uncovered. The Fallout map creator received different takes from other players, who suggested different locations that would make for interesting settings in future games.
Since its inception, the Fallout franchise has been known for mixing history with sci-fi with its 1950s aesthetic. However, in the year 2077, the world was caught in a Great War that saw the globe covered in nuclear missiles and radioactive waste. While some people escaped to Vault-Tec’s underground facilities to ride out the damage, others were not so fortunate. The Fallout franchise has traditionally explored what happened in and around the various Vaults, with the first two entries taking place in the New California Republic (NCR). Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 shifted the focus to the East Coast, with Washington DC’s Capital Wasteland and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts taking the spotlight.

Though various theories about Fallout‘s Vaults continue to make the rounds, one player shared how much more ground the series can still cover. A Reddit user named Denchikmed shared a map of the United States on the r/Fallout subreddit and drew some indicators that showed where the mainline Fallout games took place. In addition to the first two games taking place in Southern California, Denchikmed’s map zoomed in on some locations such as Vaults 13 and 15 and a Brotherhood of Steel base. On the same map, the Mojave Wasteland of Fallout: New Vegas was plotted just to the east of the NCR’s territory. Denchikmed’s map also highlighted the Capital Wasteland and the Commonwealth.
Fallout Player Shares Map Of Where The Franchise Could Go
While Denchikmed’s map only included five games in the Fallout franchise, other users pointed out the locations used in various expansions, such as The Pitt of Fallout 3, and Fallout 4‘s Far Harbor. Denchikmed also did not list Fallout 76‘s Appalachia region, which covers Virginia, West Virginia, and other parts of the eastern United States. In the comments, Fallout fans chimed in and pitched ideas of locations that could appear in future entries. One user brought up the swamps of New Orleans and Florida as potential locales that could play host to mutated alligators or cryptids. Others warmed to the idea of a “nuclear winter” setting, with Chicago and Alaska as the most suggested locations for that scenario.
Between the success of the Fallout TV show and ongoing support for Fallout 76, the Fallout series is at an apparent crossroads with where it can go next. Where Bethesda chooses to take the post-apocalyptic franchise going forward remains to be seen.
