One Piece: 7 Strongest Characters Who Are No Longer Alive, Ranked
Despite being dead, the strength of these One Piece characters is talked about to this day.
However, the Marines are not perfect, and sometimes the hierarchy system can cause problems. To circumvent these issues, a secret group called SWORD emerged. Marines who join SWORD effectively hand in their resignation, but in exchange they are allowed to do whatever they want, even going after the Yonko. Already, many notable Marines have enlisted, but there are many more characters who would benefit from signing up.
6 Bogard
Could Potentially Rescue Monkey D. Garp
Bogard is the right-hand man of Monkey D. Garp. He has traveled with Garp for years and is likely the Vice Admiral’s most trusted man. Unfortunately, Bogard’s fighting abilities largely remain a mystery, but it has been confirmed that he is a swordsman.
Initially, Bogard might not have a reason to join SWORD, but his mind might change after Garp was captured by the Blackbeard Pirates. While Garp is linked to the Marines, there is only a miniscule chance that they will use their resources to rescue him. The Marines wouldn’t want to confront a Yonko directly, so Bogard might end up joining SWORD as they are more likely to conduct a rescue mission.
5 Tashigi
Will Get More Freedom That She Needs To Pursue Her Dreams
Tashigi is Marine Captain and Smoker’s underling. She is an ambitious individual who wants to retrieve all the graded swords from pirates. Tashigi’s goal is definitely a big one, but she has already managed to collect a handful of swords.

One Piece: 7 Strongest Old Characters, Ranked
We all know about the strongest young characters in One Piece, but these old characters are not to be trifled with as well.
Tashigi has not done anything noteworthy in a while, and she needs to improve upon her current strength. None of these things will change as long as she is involved with the Marines. Also, it is not the most suitable place for her to chase her dream.
4 Sengoku
Will Make The Organization More Competent
- Devil Fruit: Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Daibutsu
Sengoku is among the few legendary characters who have managed to survive through the different eras. Sengoku used to be the Fleet Admiral, but he stepped down from his position after the Summit War. While he may be 79 years old, Sengoku remains a powerful figure. He can utilize all three types of Haki, which is a rarity among the Marines.
Moreover, he has access to the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Daibutsu, a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows him to turn into a giant golden Buddha. Sengoku is still part of the Marines, but only as an inspector. If he were to join SWORD, the organization’s strength would reach new heights. He is also experienced at leading a group, and, not to mention, his experience would be invaluable to the youngsters within SWORD.
3 Kuzan
Could Possibly Be The Leader Of SWORD
- Devil Fruit: Hie Hie no Mi
Kuzan is currently one of the Ten Titanic Captains of the Blackbeard Pirates. He joined the crew sometime during the time-skip after Blackbeard offered him a role. Since Kuzan was not affiliated with any organization, he decided to take the Yonko up on the offer. Kuzan has proven to be a valuable addition to the Blackbeard Pirates; after all, he managed to take down Monkey D. Garp.

Despite their importance, these One Piece fights were never fully explored in the manga.
Kuzan is an expert at using Haki, which he demonstrated while fighting his mentor. In addition to his Haki, Kuzan also possesses the powerful Hie Hie no Mi, which enables him to freeze anything. While he may be a pirate, there are many theories that imply Kuzan could be the leader of SWORD. Or he might have a change of heart and join the group in the future.
It is heavily implied that Kuzan’s departure from the Marines is all part of the ruse.
2 Smoker
Needs To Redeem Himself And Make A Comeback
- Devil Fruit: Moku Moku no Mi
Smoker is a Marine Vice Admiral and one of the few recurring non-Straw Hat characters in One Piece. He made his debut in the East Blue Saga, and he was constantly involved in the story until the Dressrosa arc. Smoker possesses the Moku Moku no Mi, which is a Logia-type Devil Fruit.
After the time-skip, Smoker also became proficient at using Haki, but that hasn’t been enough for him to be a part of the other. Clearly, Smoker’s screen time has dwindled, and joining SWORD could put him back in the picture. Oda will also need to give Smoker some much-needed power-ups if he plans on using the Vice Admiral in the Final Saga of One Piece.
1 Fujitora
Will Be Free From Sakazuki’s Constant Nagging
- Devil Fruit: Zushi Zushi no Mi
Fujitora joined the Marines as an Admiral through the World Military Draft. Despite being blind, Fujitora was able to attain such a high standing position, which speaks volumes about his strength. The main reason why his lack of sight doesn’t affect his combat prowess is because of his incredible Observation Haki. Fujitora’s strength is further boosted by his Zushi Zushi no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit, allowing him to freely control gravity.
What makes Fujitora the perfect choice to join SWORD is that he has morals. Unlike most Marines, Fujitora does not care about the reputation of the organization. Fujitora likes doing what he believes is morally correct, and he has gotten into trouble for it. If he were to join SWORD, he wouldn’t be held accountable for his actions, and the Marines wouldn’t be able to punish him.
