Of the four Chamber puzzles in the Wyrmway of Baldur’s Gate 3, the Chamber of Justice is perhaps the most confusing and challenging.

In the middle of the room, there’s a spectral Judge overlooking three shadowed paintings, surrounded by a wall of paintings that tell the story of a thief. Each painting has a name and a description read by the narrator, and it’s up to the player to figure out how to get past the Shroud of Dark Justice before making the right choice of painting.

The solution to this puzzle instead requires you to come ready to dispel shadows and prove your sense of justice – but despite how simple this seems, the details matter for figuring out the Chamber of Justice puzzle. How To Clear The Shadows In The Chamber of Justice
The Chamber of Justice is found to the left of the gate to Ansur in the Wyrmway. The paintings in the room tell the story of a criminal, and the player must prove their sense of Justice (at least, in the eye of Balduran) by choosing the right punishment for their crimes.
However, the paintings that display the punishments in the center of the room are wreathed in a kind of cursed shadow, preventing them from being picked up. Players can still “Examine” them to see a basic description, but you can not interact with them beyond seeing this basic information.
The simplest way to cleanse these paintings is to use Remove Curse on the Judge, which will instantly get rid of the shadows on each of the central paintings. You can also use the spell Dispel Magic on the statue, if your class does not have access to Remove Curse. If you play a non-spellcaster class, be sure to bring a Scroll of Remove Curse or a Scroll of Dispel Magic to solve this puzzle.
You can find Scrolls at various vendors throughout Baldur’s Gate – but head to Sorcerous Sundries first for your best chance at picking one of these scrolls up. You can only use a Scroll once, so consider purchasing two in case you mis-click.
Now, after removing the shadows from the paintings in the room, players can not only interact with each painting to hear the narrator’s description, but they can also pick them up. This is necessary to get to the Chamber of Justice solution in BG3, as there is still something you must do beyond clearing these shadows.

Chamber of Justice Puzzle Solution
Surrounding the Empty Niche in the middle of the room you will see a series of paintings that depict a Thief who stole apples and was caught. Once the Darkness is cleared, you can interact with these to hear a description and gain some insight into their meaning.
Each painting depicts a punishment, and to solve the Chamber of Justice puzzle, players must place the painting depicting the correct punishment for the thief into the Empty Niche in the middle of the room.
The severity of each punishment is very different, and depending on one’s personal views, different punishments might seem correct. Of the three, though, the punishment depicted in “The Cell,” in which the thief is put in prison, is the correct option for the Chamber of Justice. Though the thief wasn’t exactly evil and appears to have stolen mostly for the survival of others, the crime was still a crime, and apparently, one that Balduran wouldn’t think a true Hero could wholly forgive.
Pick up “The Cell,” from the wall then interact with the Empty Niche in the middle of the room to bring up a crafting menu. You can pick up the painting (and avoid triggering the narration instead) by opening the Context menu on it, or by right-clicking on the object in the world and selecting “Pick Up”. Add the painting to the empty slot from your inventory, then press combine to complete the Chamber of Justice puzzle.
Once completed, continue through the dungeon to find the Chamber of Strategy and the Chamber of Courage, which must both be completed alongside the Chamber of Justice to unlock access to the resting place of Ansur.
