How to Set Up Smart Plating Automation in Satisfactory
After completing Phase 1 in Satisfactory by finally building the Space Elevator, ADA, FICSIT’s handler will task players to start making deliveries of certain rare materials to the Elevator.
The item required to complete the very first Space Elevator delivery is 50 units of Smart Plating, an item that players will not have encountered until this point. Smart Plating cannot be crafted at a Crafting Bench like Iron Plates or Copper Wire, which might result in some confusion about how to get it.
How to Craft Smart Plating in Satisfactory
Smart Plating can only be crafted using an Assembler building in Satisfactory. It cannot be crafted manually on a Crafting Bench or by using the HUB terminal. To do so, players will need to set up a rudimentary automation to bring the Assembler two materials needed for Smart Plating.
How to Set Up Smart Plating Automation in Satisfactory
While there are many ways to streamline this, the following can be used as a starting point.
- Build two storage containers side-by-side.
- Store Rotors in one container.
- Store Reinforced Iron Plates in the other container.
- Build an Assembler right in front of these two containers, with the two input slots facing each container’s output vents.
- Connect the Rotor container to one Assembler port and the Reinforced Iron Plates container to the other port.
- Interact with the Assembler and select the ‘Smart Plating’ recipe under the Space Elevator tab at the top.
- Connect the Assembler to the power grid to turn it on and start the automation.
Alternatively, if players
only
need 50 Smart Plating
in a hurry, they can choose to only create a single Assembler, connect it to a power source, and manually add 50 Rotors and 50 Reinforced Iron Plates to the recipe menu.
Traditionally, by this point in the game, players will already have set up previous automations to create everything from simple Copper Wires to Reinforced Iron Plates to Rotors. If this is indeed the case, it is simple to connect the Smart Plating production to existing automations.
Build an Assembler near where you’re producing Iron Plates and Screws and use it to produce Reinforced Iron Plates. Build another Assembler and feed it Iron Rods and Screws to get Rotors. Connect both of these outputs to another Assembler to create Smart Plating.
The great thing about Satisfactory is that dismantling existing structures doesn’t have any downsides. This encourages experimentation with build setting and different build setups. Don’t be afraid to completely uproot your existing production line if it gets messy and convoluted. Recreating it somewhere else has literally no downsides.
