Key Takeaways

  • A player-proposed solution for Remote Raid Passes uses PokeCoins and walking distance.
  • The proposal aligns with Niantic’s goal of player interaction and doesn’t conflict with the company’s monetization strategy.
  • The addition of a Party Play feature would also boost player interaction.

A Pokemon GO fan has come up with a great strategy to remove the Remote Raid pass limitations that involves implementing a hybrid recharge model that uses both PokeCoins and walking distance to power up the passes. Niantic imposed restrictions on Remote Raid Passes to ensure that players walk around while playing Pokemon GO, and this strategy seems to be a great middle ground between the expectations of players and developers.

Pokemon GO fans have witnessed a plethora of exciting content in the last few weeks, ranging from the Legendary Heroes event to Dynamax Beldum’s debut as part of Max Raids. That being said, fans have been unhappy about how some of the events have been designed. For instance, the emphasis on trading in Pokemon GO‘s Legendary Heroes event wasn’t well received by many in the community, particularly by rural players. Meanwhile, one player has come up with a great strategy to solve the Remote Raid Pass debacle.

In a new post on the Pokemon GO subreddit, user Entire_Pineapple4732 highlights a unique idea that Niantic could possibly implement to address the concerns the community has raised regarding Remote Raid Passes. The user proposes that Niantic should add a permanent Remote Raid Pass in Pokemon GO, and to use it, players will first need to charge it by walking two kilometers. The Remote Raid Pass could store ten charges in total, and once players have a charge, they will need 100 PokeCoins to take part in a raid.

How the Pokemon GO Remote Raid Pass Proposal Addresses Niantic’s Concerns

The reason why this revamped Remote Raid Pass model might align with Niantic’s vision is that it essentially stays true to their core premise. Niantic imposed restrictions on Remote Raid Passes in Pokemon GO to make sure that players go out and interact with others while playing the game, and the walking distance-based charging feature supports this goal. Furthermore, since the Remote Raid Passes still require PokeCoins to be used, it doesn’t hurt Niantic’s monetization strategy either. Additionally, the strategy also ensures that players have the freedom to play the game on their own schedule, something the community has always wished for.

Another interesting aspect of the proposal is Party Play. The user proposes that fans should be able to recharge their Remote Raid Passes much faster if they are playing Pokemon GO in Party Play mode. This would encourage more users to play Pokemon GO in groups — something Niantic has promoted time and again. Over on Reddit, many are impressed with the idea, with many requesting Niantic to conduct a community poll to vote on it. However, some fans think that it would be quite difficult to implement since players can use illegitimate ways to add fake steps, and even the Party Play bonus can easily be exploited by using multiple accounts.
