The Episode Battle mode of Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO allows players to re-experience all of the main arcs from Dragon Ball Z and Super. However, at various points throughout the story, players will be given opportunities to break from the canon timeline, the first of which comes in the “The Earth’s Mightiest Duo?!” episode of Goku’s Saga.

How to Unlock Every Character in Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO
There are 47 unlockable characters in Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, most of whom can be acquired in a number of different ways.
Players will be asked to choose whether they want to work with Piccolo or go it alone, with each option potentially having drastically different outcomes. The following guide will cover all of the potential consequences of this choice to help Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO players with this decision.
Should You Work with Piccolo or Go It Alone? (No Spoilers)
Like most of the other choices in Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, it doesn’t matter whether players choose to work with Piccolo or go it alone. This isn’t to say that both options don’t lead to their own unique timelines, but rather that players will be free to return to “The Earth’s Mightiest Duo?!” and choose the other option whenever they like. With that in mind, what it really comes down to is which timeline players want to experience first: the canon Dragon Ball timeline in which Goku works with Piccollo or the what-if? scenario that sees him go it alone.
What Happens if Players Choose to Work with Piccolo? (Mild Spoilers)
If players choose to work with Piccolo, they’ll be taken to the “Rematch and Result” episode, which sees Goku and Piccolo confronting Raditz just as they did in the anime. However, if players are able to defeat Raditz quickly enough, they’ll unlock the Pushing the Limit Sparking Episode. This timeline sees Goku survive the fight with Raditz, which has a huge impact on the way that the showdown with Nappa and Vegeta plays out, as well as some of the events on Planet Namek in Chapter 2.
What Happens if Players Choose to Go It Alone? (Mild Spoilers)
If players opt to go it alone, they’ll be taken to the “Raditz vs. The Turtle School” episode, in which they’ll be backed up by Krillin instead of Piccolo. Merely surviving the encounter will put players back on the canon timeline, but beating Raditz quickly will trigger the Side by Side Sparking Episode. Side by Side again sees Goku surviving the showdown with Raditz, and ultimately leads to him working together with Vegeta to take down Frieza on Planet Namek.
