It’s been three years since Arcane: League of Legends left fans on a cliffhanger in the Season 1 finale. Marketing has begun for Season 2 of Netflix’s hit animated series, but the fate of the Council of Piltover remains a mystery.

Arcane’s first season introduced a plethora of new characters to audiences, with many recognizable as some of the best League of Legends champions. Always in the background was the Piltover ruling council, a governing body made up of influential individuals who gather to discuss and vote on important matters to Piltover society. Notably, Season 1 saw a founding member of the council, Heimerdinger, replaced by Hextech leader, Jayce Talis, with the council hoping it would help him lead Piltover into a new era of progress with his Hextech gems.

As the conflict escalated between Piltover and Zaun, Jayce motioned to issue a peace treaty and grant the undercity its independence, which appeared to gain the favor of the council. However, the outcome of the vote was never revealed as Jinx fired a rocket directly at the council chambers in the final moments of Arcane Season 1, leaving audiences waiting to find out who lives or dies.

Arcane Season 2 Receives Special After-Show on Netflix

Arcane’s second season will receive a special Netflix after-show where cast and creatives break down the new season.

The Odds of Each Piltover Council Member’s Survival in Arcane Season 2

Jayce Talis

Jayce Talis is the pride and joy of Piltover. As the head of Hextech, Jayce is responsible for creating the Hexgates which established Piltover as a wealthy and influential city in Runeterra. Jayce’s narrative was key in Season 1 of Arcane as he and his scientist partner, Viktor, worked on harnessing arcane powers to create new and innovative technologies.

Jayce was so integral to Season 1 of Arcane that it’s hard to see him not having a part to play in Season 2. That being said, Arcane has never been a show to shy away from killing major characters, and Jayce’s death could be a driving force in the conflict to come. Without his oversight, it might also mean that Hextech’s weapons could be used for war in Arcane Season 2, which is something Jayce was against throughout Season 1.

Mel Medarda

Ostracized from the Medarda clan, Mel proved herself to be a clever and influential politician in Arcane Season 1, making intelligent moves throughout the season that put her in power. Both Mel’s death and survival would have big ramifications for the story. In the final episodes of Arcane Season 1, viewers were introduced to Mel’s mother, Ambessa Medarda, a ruthless warlord from Noxus. In Season 2 teasers for Arcane so far, Ambessa’s voice-over can be heard saying “Your council is dead. Wrath must be met with wrath”. It’s unclear what the context of these lines is, but it certainly sounds like at least some of the council members will die in Arcane Season 2, and if Mel is one of them, it would serve as a motivator for her mother to call on Noxus to join Piltover and fight Zaun.

However, there is another theory that Mel is one of the most likely councilors to survive the attack. In the final seconds of Arcane Season 1, the gold plates that make up Mel’s outfit can be seen glowing, right as Jinx’s rocket approaches the council chamber window. She then looks over her shoulder at the rocket, as if alerted it was coming. Some theories suggest that Mel’s outfit may have some inbuilt shielding technology that will allow her to survive the blast, and potentially save others.

Cassandra Kiramman

Cassandra Kiramman in Arcane

Cassandra Kiramman was introduced as the uptight and overprotective mother of Caitlyn in Arcane Season 1. She is mostly at odds with her daughter throughout the season, but can also often be swayed to see reason when presented with a compelling argument. Of all the councilors, Cassandra’s death in Arcane would make the most sense as it would provide Caitlyn with a personal motivation to get vengeance on Jinx for killing her mother. There’s already a sense in Season 2 teasers that Caitlyn may be headed for a darker character arc, and Cassandra’s death could be the catalyst for that.

Bolbok

Bolbok Arcane Council Member

Recognizable by his steampunk cyborg exterior, Bolbok’s defining feature in Arcane’s first season is that he fears the powers of the Arcane as it nearly wiped out his entire race. Bolbok is often seen siding with Jayce on council matters after the two came to a business agreement behind closed doors. If Bolbok survives he would no doubt be useful to the story as someone who could shed more light on the Arcane, but given his status as a supporting character his odds of survival aren’t high.

Hoskel

Arcane council members Hoskel

Another member of Piltover’s elite council, Hoskel could be considered one of the less intelligent members of the group. This is evidenced when he is given a children’s toy to fiddle with during a council session in Act 1 and is seen still trying to figure it out after the time jump in Act 2, years later. Hoskel did not provide any significant story beats for Season 1, so it seems likely he could be eliminated in Jinx’s attack.

Salo

arcane-council-salo

Of all the council members, Salo receives perhaps the least amount of screen time or dialogue. They are recognizable mainly for having a flute of wine on the council table at any given time. Given Salo’s passive status on the council, it seems like they would be an easy choice to kill off if Arcane plans to make a statement by eliminating many characters at once.

Shoola

Arcane council member Shoola

Arcane is known for having an interesting steampunk style and Shoola is the councilor who perhaps best represents that. Her outfit is very notable throughout the season, the main item of which is a ticking golden piece that moves in a circle on a mechanism around her neck. While Soola engages in debate with her fellow council members on most matters, she’s another candidate for elimination in Arcane Season 2 given her lack of notable story impact outside of the council chambers.

Viktor

Arcane: Viktor Cry

Technically, Viktor is not a member of Piltover’s ruling council, but he is in the room at the time that Jinx’s rocket is fired, meaning his fate is also unknown. Viktor was a prominent character in Arcane Season 1, working with Jayce to progress the Hextech gems and going to extreme and experimental lengths to find a cure for his terminal illness. Viktor ended up being successful after combining Shimmer with the Hexcore, which provided him with a functional and robotic leg that allowed him to walk unaided for the first time.

Viktor is one of the series’ main links to the science aspects of the story, and with the Arcane seemingly having a bigger part to play in Season 2, Viktor would be a likely character to explore that part of the story. No character in Arcane is guaranteed safety, but Viktor would be a likely choice to survive the bombing, as his knowledge and insight would certainly become valuable in the upcoming season.

Arcane Season 2 will be released on Netflix in three parts, starting on November 9.
