By the time Severance Season 2 finally arrives, it will have been almost three full years since the Apple TV+ series ended its first season with one heck of a cliffhanger. The good news is that fans of the literally mind-bending show, that is to say a show about bending the minds of its employees, finally has confirmation of an official release date for its second season.

One day after teasing the Apple TV+ series’ first trailer for Season 2, the video landed on social media. Unsurprisingly, the new trailer looks like it picks up not long after the end of Season 1’s events when Mark, Helly and Dylan staged a bit of a coup after realizing that the coexistence of the Innies and the Outties was not as peaceful as they had been led to believe. Alongside some teases for what people will get to see in the long-awaited Season 2, is when they can expect to see it, which was hoped for but wasn’t a guarantee considering that Apple TV+ can be awful cagey when it wants about those kinds of details.

There’s no shortage of fan theories swirling around the first season of Severance. These examples are some of the most interesting.

Things Could Go Off The Rails In Severance Season 2

The new trailer, released on X and YouTube, shows what looks like Mark knowing that something is very, very wrong, even though there is one scene where it appears one of his personalities comes to the forefront. Of course, it’s also possible that the slight eye-roll the trailer shows off as he’s riding in the elevator could indicate that something is wrong and that the Innie does, in fact, not show itself. There’s also a nice little detail of showing the Apple TV+ logo as Mark runs through the main waiting area, perfectly placed for a show like this.

The scenes of Mark running through the halls of Lumon Industries take up most of the action in the new trailer, but it is intercut with short shots of other Innies including Helly, who looks like she’s trying to gather herself. This could simply be a callback to the final episode of Season 1 where she goes on stage and starts talking about how bad things really are at the company.

The real gut punch of this first trailer is when Mark finally finds himself getting to where his desk normally is, or at least what seems to be like his usual work area, only to find three new Innies who also seem somewhat surprised to see him rushing into the room. Not long after, his both creepy and intimidating manager, Milchick, welcomes him back to the office with balloons adorned with Mark’s face.

Those three new Innies are just the tip of the iceberg as there have been several new additions to the second season of Severance. Gwendoline Christie, Alia Shawkat, Bob Balaban, Merritt Wever, Robby Benson, Stefano Carannante, John Noble, Ólafur Darri and Sarah Bock are all joining the ensemble cast that will see the return of several fan favorites from its debut installment. Severance Season 2 releases on January 17, 2025.
