When playing Dragon Age: The Veilguard, encountering locked doors or barriers blocking the way forward is inevitable, with many different puzzles in the game. One such barrier is a wall of gruesome Blight blocking the way forward in one of Dragon Age: The Veilguard‘s mainline quests, The Singing Blade, the fifth main story quest in Act I. The Singing Blade sees you chasing a Darkspawn Ghoul across the Ritual Site to retrieve Solas’ Lyrium Dagger, where you’ll encounter several obstacles on your journey, including various enemies and door puzzles.

Blight blockade in Dragon Age: The Veilguard's Singing Blade quest

Around the middle of Dragon Age: The Veilguard‘s Singing Blade quest, you come across a bridge path blocked by a giant wall of Blight. Until now, these pus-like walls typically pulsate red, indicating they are weakened and destroyable. For instance, there were several Blight walls to break in the Shadows Crossing main quest, where you chose whether to save or leave the Mayor. However, this particular wall of Blight presents a slightly different challenge, as it seems there is no obvious way of destroying it. However, it’s not as tricky as it might seem, and the trick is to power it up first so it turns red. You can break the Blight in the Singing Blade quest by following a few simple steps as outlined and pictured below:

1. Approach the bridge and use a long-range attack to shoot the glowing red Blight on the wall left of the blockade. For instance, if you’re playing as a Mage in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, most standard ranged magic attacks using your staff should do the trick, so try switching to that if you are favoring the dagger and orb.

2. Run across the bridge and stand in front of the blockade. Grab the Power Crystal on your right, causing the bridge behind you to disappear.

3. Turn around and look toward the gap where the bridge was. You should see another red Blight spot underneath the bridge, which wasn’t visible until you deactivated it. Shoot it to power it up and break the Blight blocking the path, which now lights up red. You can now destroy the Blight in the usual way, such as by zapping it with your magic, and head inside to the next area. However, the puzzle is not quite finished yet.

4. Enter the room ahead to find a gate blocking entry to the next section, marking another door puzzle with an empty Power Crystal slot in front of the gate, an item you can expect to use a lot to open many of Dragon Age: The Veilguard‘s door puzzles as the game continues. Grab the Power Crystal you used before to remove the bridge and place it on the empty slot instead, causing the gate to open.

Having destroyed the Blight and opened the gate, you can now progress ahead in this quest, leading you to some more door puzzles and culminating in a final boss fight with Darkspawn Ghoul. There are also several chests to open in Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Singing Blade quest, giving you even more things to discover as you explore the Ritual Site.
