Minecraft Player Accidentally Makes All Their Sheep Turn Shiny

A Minecraft player tried to tinker with the settings on their PC, but accidentally made their sheep shiny. Minecraft was released in 2011, a time when technology had not yet seen many of the advances available today. But even so, Mojang’s sandbox remains a success not only because of its creative potential, but also because of its accessibility.

And it was thanks to Ray Tracing that Redditor MartineZ_MW accidentally made the sheep in their Minecraft world shiny. They shared the video showing the animals with their bodies like mirrors, reflecting ore blocks, fences, a nearby tree, and even the sky, making it impossible to tell what color those sheep are. According to them, the result of this amusing and unexpected situation was a wrong Ray Tracing setting they made, which they shared in the comments for players who are curious to try it out.

NVIDIA’s Ray Tracing technology was introduced to the world in 2018 when it was still known as NVIDIA RTX. With Ray Tracing, gamers can greatly improve the graphics of a long list of games, including favorites like Alan Wake 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Minecraft, specifically, got support for Ray Tracing in 2019, making the game’s lighting more realistic and impressive, along with enhancing the visual experience with shadows, reflections, and block textures.

While Minecraft is a game known for its accessible requirements, to run the sandbox with Ray Tracing enabled, players will need a more robust PC as it is a more demanding technology with hardware. If players want a second option, they can find a variety of Minecraft shader packs to give the game a look very close to that of a AAA game with incredible realism. Although they also test the limits of the PC’s settings, shaders are a more objective way of boosting Minecraft‘s graphics, since all the player needs to do is choose the pack they want and install it.
