The DC universe is currently undergoing a revamp with James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU finally beginning a new era for the comic brand. Despite the new chapter, some of the studio’s previous projects are continuing and that includes the studio’s next release, season 5 of Harley Quinn.

Harley Quinn began in 2019 and the adult animated take on the Batman villain’s story debuted to great success. The series follows Harley Quinn (voiced by Kaley Cuoco) following her break-up with the Joker as she attempts to establish herself as one of Gotham’s greatest super villains. Joining her crew are other notable DC characters, Poison Ivy (Lake Bell), Clayface (Alan Tudyk), and King Shark (Ron Funches). Harley Quinn has earned positive reviews throughout all four of its seasons, with the Rotten Tomatoes scores ranging from between 89-100%.

Harley Quinn Season 5 Date Confirmed

DC Studios is currently relaunching the DCU with Creature Commandos. However, the next series out of the studio will be one that sits outside the new DCU’s continuity. The release date of Harley Quinn’s fifth season has been confirmed, with the series set to start streaming on Max on January 16, 2025. The announcement also came with the debut of the first Harley Quinn Season 5 trailer on YouTube.

The new season will take Harley and Ivy to a new location, the idyllic Metropolis (aka Superman’s domain), as they attempt a fresh start. The trailer also hints at plot lines involving Lena Luthor appointing Ivy as the head of Metropolis’ green initiative, the introduction of King Shark’s offspring, and a mastermind plot from Superman super villain Brainiac (voiced by Stephen Fry). After Harley reconciled both the good and evil parts of her nature in the fourth season, it appears Season 5 will put that to the test, with Harley and Ivy tasked with saving Metropolis.

Some other notable DC characters who are involved in Harley Quinn Season 5 are Superman and Lois Lane, plus the return of villains from previous seasons, Bane and Lex Luthor. The series is also set to bring back a villain from the 2003 Teen Titans animated series, with the character known as Red X appearing in the trailer. The character was originally a secret identity held by Robin in the series, but with Harley Quinn resurrecting Dick Grayson/Nightwing at the end of Season 5, there’s a strong theory that this may be who is under the mask this time.

What is The Future of Harley Quinn At DC After Season 5?

It’s unclear whether the fifth season of Harley Quinn will be its last. Although DC does seem to be betting big on the Harley Quinn universe, with the spin-off series Kite Man: Hell Yeah! debuting earlier in 2024. The series followed the adventures of Kite Man, who was initially set to marry Poison Ivy in Harley Quinn before she dumped him, and his romance with his new girlfriend Golden Glider. The series performed similarly well to its flagship, earning 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, a sequel is yet to be confirmed.

Harley Quinn Season 5 will be released on Max on January 16, 2025.
