Highlights

  • Actor Antony Starr, who portrays Homelander in The Boys, will not be voicing the character in Mortal Kombat 1’s DLC.
  • Previous Mortal Kombat games had A-list actors voice guest characters, but this won’t be the case for Homelander.
  • Fans were disappointed by this decision, especially since Starr’s likeness was used for the character’s appearance in the game.

Antony Starr, the actor for Homelander in The Boys, reveals that he won’t be voicing the guest DLC character in Mortal Kombat 1. Mortal Kombat 1‘s first Kombat Pack comes with an array of DLC characters hailing from dark superhero comic books. More specifically, Invincible‘s Omni-Man, Peacemaker from DC Comics, and Homelander from The Boys, with all three being popular characters that many had wanted to see in the roster of a Mortal Kombat game. The first character in the pack, Omni-Man, was released earlier this November, with Homelander likely to be the next one in line to be added to Mortal Kombat 1.

In past Mortal Kombat games, guest characters were usually voiced by the A-list actors who first portrayed them in the movies. Omni-Man’s voice actor from the Amazon Prime animated show, J.K. Simmons, reprised his role for Mortal Kombat 1. Even the previous game, Mortal Kombat 11, featured Peter Wells and Sylvester Stallone reprising their roles as Robocop and Rambo when they appeared as DLC characters for the game. It appears that Antony Starr, the actor for Homelander in The Boys, will not be portraying the character in MK1 however.

Is Antony Starr Playing Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1?

This detail about Homelander’s portrayal in Mortal Kombat 1 was confirmed on Instagram, where user vaguelyokay asked the actor if he was voicing the character in MK1. Antony Starr replied to this query with a simple “nope,” which disappointed a lot of fans on social media. Many fans were upset at NetherRealm Studios’ decision to not have Starr reprise his role as Homelander, considering that he is already lending his likeness for the character’s appearance, as seen in the initial DLC reveal trailer.

This isn’t the first time that NetherRealm Studios has done this, as seen with one of Mortal Kombat 11‘s guest characters, The Terminator. Arnold Schwarzenegger was scanned to be the character’s facial model but didn’t voice the T-800 Terminator in-game. Instead, Chris Cox was selected as the voice of the Terminator, who was chosen personally by Schwarzenegger himself as well. This is likely the same case for Homelander’s appearance in Mortal Kombat 1.

Omni-Man’s guest appearance set the bar high for Mortal Kombat 1, meaning Homelander will be a tough act to follow as well. Regardless, fans shouldn’t expect to hear Antony Starr’s voice in Mortal Kombat 1. Starr doesn’t mention who will be playing Homelander in the fighting game, but whoever his replacement is will also have an uphill battle to meet fan expectations.
