The world of Baldur’s Gate 3 is full of danger, and players will need every advantage they can get if they want to survive their upcoming battles. Completing quests is a particularly good source of loot, and usually, the harder the quest, the better the rewards.
The Rune of the Wolf is a reward many players will get early on in their Baldur’s Gate 3 campaign. It’s the key that leads the way to the treasure vault of the Druids of the Emerald Grove. Actually, getting to that vault may be a little confusing to some, however, so here’s a guide that covers exactly that.
Updated on September 23, 2024, by Nahda Nabiilah: Typically, the Rune of the Wolf is rewarded after saving Halsin in Baldur’s Gate 3. To complete that mission, players must visit the Goblins Camp and save Halsin from his cage, as the character is found in his bear form. Keep in mind that saving Halsin requires defeating all three leaders inside the camp. Once you find the Druid inside the Goblin’s prison, you can either tell him to wait until all leaders are defeated or ask him to join the party to help with the fight.
Baldur’s Gate 3: How To Get To The Druids’ Vault
First of all, players need to get the Rune of the Wolf by either saving Halsin from the Goblin base or by picking it off from Rath’s pocket. The latter is the fastest and most convenient way to get this Rune, though it’s not exactly the most morally righteous. Either way, go to the Druid Grove Inner Sanctum and head to the Enclave Library (the room with the big wolf statue), once the rune is obtained.
Inside the library is a stone pedestal with an open socket. Interact with it, to open up a small action window. Grab the Rune of the Wolf from the selected character’s inventory and insert it into the item box. With the Rune in place, touch all the pedestals within the Enclave Library in any order. This will light each of them up and cause the Wolf statue to disappear, revealing a floor hatch with a spiraling stairway leading to the vault.
There is an assortment of loot to take within the chest, crates, and vases inside the vault, but the most noteworthy item in the room is the unique Glaive lying on the stone table: Sorrow. This weapon grants its wielder the Ensnaring Strike skill, which causes thorny vines to attack targets and possibly Ensnare them. Ensnared targets take 1d6 Piercing Damage at the start of their turn. This also makes enemies easier to hit for the rest of the party members.
Sorrow comes with one notable drawback: every time an attack with the weapon connects, its user will take one point of Psychic Damage every time. This may be negligible to someone like a Barbarian or a Paladin, but it can spell disaster whenever the dice don’t roll in the player’s favor, so be careful when using this weapon.
How To Save Halsin In Baldur’s Gate 3
If you decide to save Halsin instead of stealing the Rune of the Wolf, you need to head to the Goblin Camp. Pass through the guards or kill them, then go inside the Shattered Sanctum. Turn right to climb the stairs and proceed forward until players arrive at the Worgs Pen.
Upon entering the prison, go down the stairs to start a conversation. There will be people abusing a bear, so kill them to discover that the bear is Halsin. Speak with him briefly, and he reveals that the three True Soul leaders must be defeated. Kill all of them and speak with the Druid again to save him. Finally, return to the Emerald to be rewarded with the Rune of the Wolf.
If players are having difficulties defeating the True Souls, there is a method to kill them without combat in Baldur’s Gate 3. For True Soul Gut, chat with her until she guides Tav into her room. Use any Human character like Gale to drink her potion and get kidnapped. After a while, someone will appear out of thin air and kill the Priestess without you breaking a sweat.
Nightwarden Minthara is also easy to defeat without a fight. Simply speak with her and agree to her terms until she’s forced to walk on the wooden bridge. Once Minthara is on it, shoot the wooden support to make her die of fall damage. Alternatively, players who wish to make her join their party can knock her out instead of killing her.
Finally, Dror Ragzlin requires a bit of planning to be killed without a fight. Sneak inside his room and use the ladder to reach the upper wooden beams. Go to the sides and take out a Void Bulb. Aim it at the corner behind Dror Ragzlin near the cliff to make him fall and die. Tav can also consume a Potion of Invisibility to sneak undetected.
