A Baldur’s Gate 3 player has been left shocked after accidentally discovering they can turn the popular companion Karlach into a hellhound. Companions are the NPCs that players will spend the most time with in Baldur’s Gate 3, so it’s always surprising when something new is discovered about them.

One of the most appealing elements of Baldur’s Gate 3 is how full of details and possibilities it is. If there’s the possibility that players can think of something in any given situation, it always seems as though Larian has fleshed out a scenario that can then play out as a result. This encourages players to try more interesting things, knowing that the game will likely reward them as a result. For example, there was one Baldur’s Gate 3 player who turned Scratch into an “anti-mage grenade” by making him eat a Sussur Bloom, making the canine companion more useful in combat. If players feel like they’re experiencing something totally unique, they’ll always come back for more.

Redditor Annepackrat was left surprised by their Baldur’s Gate 3 Karlach discovery, after transforming the popular companion into a hellhound. She looks just like the game’s regular dog model except engulfed in flames and with black and red fur. If Karlach was a dog, this is exactly what she’d look like. Some pointed out that Karlach’s hellhound form looks like a Dark Urge version of Scratch, earning the hilarious nickname, “The Bark Urge.”

Baldur’s Gate 3 Player Accidentally Turns Karlach Into a Hellhound

According to Annepackrat, Karlach transformed into a hellhound when a Wild Magic Baldur’s Gate 3 spell turned everyone in the vicinity into cats and dogs. Of the companions, Karlach is the only one with a custom dog form, making this detail all the more interesting. Some felt it apt that Karlach got a unique dog form given that, in the words of one user, “she’s a golden retriever of a person.” Sadly, hellhound Karlach is only temporary for as long as the Wild Magic spell lasts.

It’s set to be a big few months for Baldur’s Gate 3. Larian has been working on the next major update for the game, and just recently, revealed all the big features coming in Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8. While features like Photo Mode and crossplay are sure to be a welcome addition, it will also mark the end of an era. It was also confirmed at the same time that it will be the last major update for the game, which is sad considering its ongoing possibility. It’s not a surprise, though, given Larian confirmed it would be moving on from the game earlier this year.
