Many PC gaming fans will no doubt be familiar with GOG, a digital distribution platform and subsidiary of the renowned Polish development studio CD Projekt. The upcoming medieval RPG Band of Crusaders, developed by the new Polish studio Virtual Alchemy, will launch on GOG as part of a new partnership between the platform and the studio. Although its release date is still undetermined, fans can expect the title on GOG in addition to Steam come its eventual release.

This may come as good news for fans eager to step foot into Band of Crusaders‘ 1350 A.D. medieval realm, a world where players lead a knightly order against invading demonic forces that threaten its European-inspired lands. Game Rant recently had the opportunity to chat with Band of Crusaders‘ CEO Dominik Sypnicki and art director Kamil Mickiewicz about their new partnership with GOG. Specifically, Sypnicki and Mickiewicz spoke in depth about how the partnership came about and discussed what it means for Band of Crusaders, its community, and GOG.

The Story Behind Band of Crusaders’ Partnership With GOG

Band of Crusaders‘ partnership with GOG began at 2024’s Gamescom event, where both sides had booths close to one another. Band of Crusaders had already caught the attention of GOG even before then, though, as Mickiewicz went on to tell the story:

We started casually talking about
Band of Crusaders
, GOG, and the community. It became known to us that there was also some interest in voices from their side. Players, for example, started asking if our game would be on GOG and tagging our respective social media accounts. It was something that we weren’t aware of, but they noticed.

Mickiewicz also revealed that GOG availability was “the second or third most popular topic” raised by the Band of Crusaders community in their analytics.

Sypnicki also spoke more about what adding Band of Crusaders to GOG means for the game and its community, meaning that “players will be able to access the game in whatever form and platform they like.” This even includes past iterations of the upcoming medieval fantasy game, something the GOG platform allows and also fits in with Virtual Alchemy’s values of player freedom. As Mickiewicz also explained,

Freedom of choice, as Dominic mentioned. Not only the expression of you as a game player, but also on GOG. GOG allows you to even pick older versions of the build of the game from the platform if you’re really willing to step back and experience the game how it was a few versions below the newest version. You are able to do this.

Band of Crusaders also focuses on player freedom in other ways, such as its class-agnostic skills tree system that allows players to develop crusaders according to their preferred playstyles. Altogether, this could come as exciting news not only for fans of the Band of Crusaders but for those who enjoy finding RPGs to play from the GOG catalog. Our Band of Crusaders preview also showed a lot of promise as an RTS game that blends a real-time overworld map, tactical combat, a classless progression system, and various management features. It seems there is a lot to look forward to when Band of Crusaders launches on PC.
