Call of Duty Zombies has found its most recent iteration and evolution with Black Ops 6, which allows for a new method of success and upgrades through Augments. Augments in Black Ops 6 are exclusive to the Zombies mode, and it’s the way that players can permanently enhance their Perks, Ammo Mods, and Field Upgrades through the use of Major and Minor Augments.

Players must fight the undead horrors and experiments that are stopping their escape from Terminus Island in this Black Ops 6 Zombies main quest!

However, it’s not exactly made clear how players can get Augments in Black Ops 6, and the way to research them isn’t explained as much as one might hope or think. Players are going to need to know the basics of Augments to craft the most optimized kit that they can, and here’s just how researching augments works in Black Ops 6.

Research Augments in Black Ops 6, Explained

Heading into the Zombies mode of Black Ops 6, players can select the Weapons tab where they can then select Augments to enter into the Augments page. From here, players can both Equip Augments that they have unlocked and select Research Augments, to begin researching items that will unlock new Augments for use.

Players can only select one item to research at once, and this is shared between Perk-a-Colas, Ammo Mods, and Field Upgrades. Each of these powerful additions comes with 6 Augments to research, with 3 Minors and 3 Majors. Players can unlock different Perk-a-Colas, Ammo Mods, and Field Upgrades to research after they have completed a select amount of research tasks, but, how does one complete a research task for Augments?

In order to complete a research task, players must make sure that they have selected an Active Research task depending on what they want Minor and Major Augments from. Now, all players need to do is head into a game of Zombies. Augment Research is much like XP and can be obtained by progressing through rounds, killing zombies, and completing S.A.M. Trials. However, players will earn more Augment Research XP if they are using what they have as the Active Research. This means that if players have Juggernog as their Active Research, then they need to make sure they have Juggernog in-game.

There is no way to check Research Augment progress in-game, but solo players will be able to save and quit a match of Zombies to check on their Augment progress and even switch to a different Active Research before heading back in.
