Quincies in Bleach are the polar opposite of the Shinigami. Despite the two of them being important spiritual beings required to keep the balance between all three realms, Quincy have the ability to completely wipe out Hollows from existence. This ability may be useful in some situations, but 200 years ago, when the Quincy began to overhunt Hollows, it tipped the balance between the realms. This led to the Shinigami-Quincy War in Bleach, which resulted in most of the Quincy being eliminated to keep the peace.

Yhwach was known to be the ‘Father of the Quincies’ as his blood runs through their veins. He was special among his species because he only had the ability to share his power with others. He eventually found a more potent method of sharing his soul and that was done by engraving letters directly onto their souls. This ability was called Schrift and only Yhwach’s Sternritter’s earned the glory of obtaining a letter. Each Sternritter’s Schrift was comparable to a Shinigami Captain and they were Yhwach’s elite force built to destroy the Soul Society. 27 Letter “Q” – Question
Existence Objection: Makes Users Question Their Existence
Berenice Gabrielli’s Schrift is pretty self-explanatory as it targets its opponents by objecting to all their actions, including their very existence. We don’t get to see much of it in action as Kenpachi Zaraki manages to immediately counteract Berenice’s ability, but it seems the Schrift exists to purely make the opponent question their own ability.
It can be speculated that it’s more of a mentally inducing Schrift in comparison to a combat-centered one. This does indeed have its downsides, because the ability is rendered useless if the opponent cannot hear or Berenice loses the ability to speak.
26 Letter “N”
Unknown Ability
The second on this list with a Schrift that Bleach fans, to this day, still have no clue what it represents, is Robert Accutrone’s letter ‘N’. So far, all that can be speculated is that he has an uncanny ability to manipulate his opponents’ blind spots and teleport to locations within the blink of an eye.
Since his Schrift is pretty much unknown, not much can be theorized about Accutrone’s ability. Not much can either be said on whether his firearms are part of his Schrift or simply a weapon he uses out of ease. However, when he is in his Vollständig form, he adorns wings and is equipped with various accessories made of Reishi. From this it can be speculated his Schrift is related to marksmanship.
25 Letter “K”
Unknown Ability
Similar to the previous Schrift, BG9’s ability is not well known amongst the series. It can only be speculated that his Schrift has some relation to information/data compiling. As an enemy, BG9 looks quite mechanical in nature and it has a very analytical approach to its fights.
It uses its battles as an opportunity to gather data on its opponents, and often goes to drastic measures to make sure it gets the answers it needs. It’s quite ‘inhumane’ in that sense and feels no remorse, since all it cares about is obtaining the necessary information required.
24 Letter “Ϛ” – Stigma
Survivability: Has Ultimate Healing Properties
Shaz Domino was originally a creation of Gremmy Thoumeaux’s Schrift ability. Gremmy created him and bestowed him with the power of a Sternritter, but Shaz grew more sentient by the day and managed to escape Gremmy. This was only possible with his present Schrift (Viability), which gave him the ability to replace every part of his imaginary body with real parts made of Reishi.
Doing so allowed him to completely sever ties from Gremmy’s control and go his own way. Yhwach soon realized this and decided to then bestow upon him the Greek letter Ϛ- which has been speculated to represent his ability to heal himself and survive any fatal injury inflicted upon him. Shaz can heal at quite an alarming rate and not much has been revealed in the Bleach manga, so if readers want to know more about him, they can always refer to the Beginning of the Revive of Tomorrow Light novel for more information on Shaz.
23 Letter “R” – Roar
Sonic Scream: Releases Devastating Soundwaves
Jerome Guizbatta’s Schrift ability is dubbed by the letter “R” and is quite an animalistic trait. Jerome’s Roar allows him to transform into a gigantic, feral-like ape which can amplify the sound of his roars and produce strong sonic shockwaves. These shockwaves can easily blow the heads off or mutilate any lower level Shinigamis.
Unfortunately, his ability doesn’t really work on high level Shinigami, as Kenpachi Zaraki was somewhat immune to the sonic roar. The ability is quite simple but sadly not suited for the long-run in a combat situation.
22 Letter “O” – Overkill
Killing-Induced Empowerment: Goes On A Killing Spree To Get Stronger
Overkill is a simple Schrift ability where Driscoll grows stronger with each thing he kills and this doesn’t necessarily constitute an enemy or an ally, but beats as well. With each kill he grows in size and strength, making it quite difficult to stop his rampage once it starts.
When Driscoll enables his Schrift, he basically massacres everything he sees in his path, and so, if he obtains the power of 100 men he has killed, he will be 100 times stronger than his opponent.
21 Letter “J” – Jail
Reishi Prison: Traps Opponents In Unbreakable Prisons
Quilge Opie has a peculiar Schrift that enables him to trap his opponents in a prison. This is quite fitting for his authoritative personality as he prefers to subjugate his opponents in his Reishi prisons.
Quilge can use the ability in such a way, that once his opponent is trapped inside, anyone outside the cage cannot detect the opponent’s Reiatsu (Spiritual Pressure) or hear them. The prison completely cuts the prisoner off from the outside world and leaves them trapped. The only way of escaping the prison is if Quilge is defeated from the outside.
20 Letter “I” – Iron
Iron Skin Mimicry: Has Skin That’s Tough And Unbreakable
Iron Mimicry is a pretty simple ability which allows Cang Du to create a skin of iron on his body. It’s a very defensive ability which can stop any blade that has made contact with his skin. He can cover his skin partially or fully, depending on the situation.
Cang Du’s Schrift is pretty versatile, as seen when he converted his frozen arms into iron when Hitsugaya Toshiro tried to subdue him. It’s considered to be the number one defensive skill among all the other Sternritters.
19 Letter “Y” – Yourself
Appearance, Power, And Personality Mimicry: Perfect Replication
The twins Royd Lloyd and Loyd Lloyd have similar Schrifts that dabble in the art of mimicry. Loyd can replicate the appearance and power of a person, whilst Royd can replicate their appearance and memory. Each of their abilities are extremely unique to their fellow Sternritter and quite versatile in battle.
However, Royd’s ability is a tad bit more superior than his brother’s, since he was seen flawlessly mimicking Yhwach’s abilities during his fight with Captain Yamamoto. By tapping into their memories, he’s able to make better use of their signature abilities and this ‘copying’ skill carries him quite far into the fight.
18 Letter “G” – Glutton
Consumption: Stretches Her Mouth To Consume Anything
Liltotto Lamperd has the ability to elongate her mouth into a jagged set of teeth, which consumes anything in its path. Her Schrift ability is titled ‘glutton’ in the literal sense, as there is nothing she cannot eat.

What’s interesting about this Schrift is that, though it is quite morbid, she also gains additional strength from everything she consumes. Unfortunately, though the ability is quite handy in its own way, it leaves Liltotto in a constant state of hunger.
17 Letter “W” – Wind
Aversion Field: Not Even The Sharpest Blade Can Touch Him
Nianzol Weizol’s Schrift is quite simple in the sense that it can deflect attacks from any target of his choosing. Also dubbed “twists and turns”, his ability basically bends anything away from him, making it virtually impossible to hit him.
He can also not only warp and twist blades, but also the bodies of his opponents by simply pointing his finger at them. It’s quite an interesting Schrift to have since it has very high defensive skills. However, that also means it has a slow reaction time, so if Nianzol doesn’t react fast enough to any act, he won’t be able to bend it in time.
16 Letter “L” – Love
Induced Infatuation: He Can Make Anyone Fall In Love With Him
PePe Waccabrada has a peculiar Schrift which enables him to make anyone fall in love with him. He does this by launching a heart-shaped projectile when he puts his hands together to form a heart. This causes his opponents to fall so in love with him, that they will do anything for him.
He basically gains complete control over his opponents and can even make them attack their allies for his benefit. The Schrift is pretty versatile as it can allow him to control anything with a heart and this includes a Shinigami’s Zanpakuto as well. The downside to this ability is that it can be countered by beings who do not know the meaning of love, so it’s a 50-50 toss up whenever he uses it on an opponent.
15 Letter “U” – Underbelly
Reiatsu Weakness Detection: Can Drain An Opponent’s Spiritual Pressure
Reiatsu Weakness Detection can be quite the overpowered Schrift ability if used well. NaNaNa Najahkoop’s Schrift gives him the ability to observe and detect weaknesses in an opponent’s Reiatsu. After detecting the opponent, he imprints a grid on them which pinpoints holes in their Reiatsu for him to manipulate.
Unfortunately, the main downside of this ability is the amount of time needed to observe. Attacking the holes in their Reiatsu causes their size to increase and thus depletes his targets of their spiritual pressure. The more time he has to observe them, the more potent his ability is.
14 Letter “E” – Explode
Bomb Transformation: Manipulates Reiatsu To Create Bombs
Bambietta Basterbine quite literally has the ability to create bombs with her Schrift. They are essentially pockets of Reishu which she can manifest and detonate wherever she likes. It’s technically quite impossible to stop, because as long as she can collect Reishu (spirit particles), anything that makes contact with it becomes a bomb itself.
It has a massive range because Bambietta doesn’t necessarily need to target a person to attack them but a whole area as well. When in her Vollständig form, she can release multiple explosions at once, since her Reiatsu has significantly increased. There are a lot of upsides to her ability, but the only thing that can stop her is if her opponent uses an object that impedes the Reishi of her surroundings.
13 Letter “P” – Power
Superhuman Strength: Inhumane Muscle Strength Manipulation
Menina McAllon’s Schrift gives her superhuman abilities, mainly superhuman strength, which she can use in various ways. She can manipulate her body and enlarge her muscles using the Schrift to give her this superhuman strength.

The Schrift is pretty straight forward as her ability is quite effortless when it comes to pushing her opponents through several buildings with just the flick of her finger. It takes minimal effort for Meninas when she uses her Schrift when on the offensive, but she can also handle herself when attacked, since her body is highly durable.
12 Letter “T” – Thunderbolt
Lightning Bolt Projection: Can Control And Shoot Lightning Bolts
Candice Catnipp’s Schrift allows her to control, create, and shoot lightning bolts at her opponents. She can mainly generate them in her hands and throw them at any targeted opponents. On top of that, she has the ability to completely transform herself into lightning and dodge any attacks by shifting back and forth between the two states.
Her bolts can be pretty damaging and useful when it comes to large-scale attacks, as she can summon multiple bolts to rain down from the skies. Additionally, when she’s in her Vollständig form, her attacks are further enhanced by forcibly absorbing all the surrounding Reishi to create stronger thunderbolts.
11 Letter “H” – Heat
Fire Manipulation: Heats Up The Air And Wields Fire
Through Reishi manipulation, Bazz-B can generate flames and command them according to his will. This Schrift essentially covers fire manipulation and Bazz-B has five-finger forms he created for its usage.
His fire rivals Captain Yamamoto’s flames and also grants him the ability to be immune to any fire attacks, since he can manipulate the flames to protect him. His Schrift is somewhat similar to Bambietta’s since he also needs a sufficient amount of Reishi in the air to manipulate.
10 Letter “F” – Fear
Fear Inducement: Cripples Opponents With Visions Of Their Greatest Fears
As one of the first Schrifts viewers to be introduced to in the series, Äs Nödt’s thorns have the ability to induce limitless fear in their opponents. With just a simple cut, Äs’ thorns can easily bring their opponents’ worst fear to life. This ability makes it very easy to cripple an opponent in a fight due to the mental anguish they suffer from it.
His opponents usually fall into an inescapable mind trap where they lose all rationality and begin to see visions of their worst fears. In his Vollständig form, Äs grows to a monstrous size and his Fear ability is greatly enhanced here. Opponents do not need to be struck by Äs to feel the effects of Fear, as just looking at him will induce it. What’s worse is that closing one’s eyes does not help, because the darkness only exacerbates the ability.

9 Letter “S” – Superstar
Cheering Empowerment: Strength From Fans
Mask de Masculine’s Schrift is pretty simple in the sense that it purely relies on a cheering squad. His Schrift banks on the cheers of his fans and the more a fan cheers for him, the more strength he obtains to win against his opponents.
His fans consist only of James, another Quincy Sternritter that is the core of Mask’s strength. It is eventually revealed that James is the true Sternritter and Mask is simply a projection of his power. Thus, the two of them are connected by a lifeline of sorts. They can only be defeated if they are killed together or James is wounded fatally enough that he cannot heal himself in time.
8 Letter “Z” – Zombie
Zombie Conversion: Can Turn People Into Zombies With Her Blood
Giselle Gewelle’s Schrift can be quite unique and morbid as well. She has the ability to turn anybody into a zombie with a splash of her blood. These zombies essentially become her puppets and they are completely loyal to Giselle. The amount of blood required depends on the Reiatsu of her opponent; for lower level Shinigami it can be a drop, whereas for Capitan level Shinigamis, her blood needs to reach their heart.
Giselle basically has a near unlimited supply of blood to use and she is not affected by the loss. She’s also immune to physical injuries because she herself is a zombie of sorts. It does have its limitations as Giselle cannot use this power on a living Quincy, but if the Quincy is dead, she can easily reattach their limbs and bring them back to life (this was seen when she brought Bambietta back to life) and also when she uses random limbs to graft a new arm for Candice.
