Work starts on 27th May on a major £540,000 refurbishment to reopen The Elmhurst, near Tottenham Hotspur stadium, following a two-year closure. The joint investment by new operator Remedy Bars and Heineken-owned Star Pubs, will see the prominent Lordship Lane pub transformed into a high-quality family friendly local with a stand-out garden. The Elmhurst will reopen in early August with 16 jobs created on the back of the investment.
The plans for The Elmhurst are designed to broaden its appeal, attracting families and local residents as well as visitors to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium sports and cultural events.
The beer garden – the largest in Tottenham – will be a big attraction with an instagrammable, Heineken branded converted London taxi complete with table, seating for four and speakers for customers to play their own music. Outside there will be seating for 100 and a Birra Moretti garden with mural, branded barrel tables, planters and umbrellas as well as festoon lighting, lanterns and a heated patio with pergola, ideal for year-round usage. Stunning feature wrought iron gates will lead direct from the road into the beer garden, which has a southerly aspect.
The interior design will be traditional, brought into the 21st century. The layout will consist of a flexible lounge area at the front, a snug bar / function room and a sports area to the rear. The lounge will feature deep blue and green walls, with an eclectic mix of deep button backed fixed seating and velvet covered armchairs creating a warm and welcoming ambience.
The bar area will be decorated with a deep maroon ceiling and teal and grey walls covered with gilt framed pictures. Large pendant and standard lights with upholstered shades and a range of mid and high tables and chairs will complete the look. It can be used for private functions for up to 50 people and has its own TV and direct access to the bar from within the room.
The games area will have table football, shuffle board, electronic darts and over 30 different board games. There will be a large screen showing Sky and barrel tables and seating for 36. There will also be three other televisions in the bar area.
Drinks at The Elmhurst will feature premium beers and a craft selection including Brixton and Beavertown, a good wine menu and a huge back bar offering premium whiskies including American and Japanese varieties, rums and a small cocktail list.

The food offer will be a food hall style concept with different menus offering a range of dishes from pizza and burgers to oriental plates and in the winter The Elmhurst will launch a Sunday roast. At the weekend there will be street food stalls in the garden offering customers a further choice of food.
The pub will open Monday – Thursday 4pm – 11pm, Friday 4pm – 12am, Saturday 12pm – 12am and Sunday 12pm – 10pm.
Says Remedy Bars Director Charles Bakker:
“The Elmhurst is a beautiful pub, believed to date back to 1903, with stunning windows and a lovely old clock. It has real character and soul and a warm and welcoming ambience. It also has a fantastic outdoors that we’re turning into a superb and unique space. There are lots of nice pubs in the area, but nothing will match our garden, which will come into its own as the days lengthen.
“As well as top quality drinks and a great food offer, there will be a quiz during the week and a DJ playing curated vinyl record selections on Saturday evenings to add to the vibe. It’s in a great location both for local residents and for people visiting one of the many events at The Tottenham stadium or going for a walk in the park.”
Says Star Pubs Investment Manager, Matt Cornwell:
“We’re delighted to be starting on the refurbishment of The Elmhurst. The garden will be a real draw – there’s nothing like it in the area. It will be an oasis in an urban environment. The upgrade of The Elmhurst is in keeping with the regeneration of Tottenham, which is attracting investment and younger more cosmopolitan residents.
“Charles is a very experienced pub and bar operator whose had many pubs and bars including currently a popular Shoreditch pub and a craft bar in Shoreditch which attracts five-star reviews. I look forward to visiting The Elmhurst once it reopens and enjoying a pint in what will be an amazing garden.”
