Becoming an overnight hit following its launch on Steam in April, the co-op survival-horror sensation Content Warning could be headed to consoles. The game has sold a whopping 2.2 copies in just over two months, prompting the community to wonder how much higher that number would be if Content Warning wasn’t exclusively on PC.

Released on April Fool’s Day, the game was made free for its first 24 hours in a move that was undoubtedly great for promotion. Content Warning saw an impressive peak concurrent player count of 204,439 during the promotion and quickly became a streamer’s game of choice, with its accessible gameplay loop and potential for hilarity making it popular with players and viewers alike.

Fans of Content Warning in the mood for more co-op horror should give the following games a shot.

In a Twitter post from Landfall Games celebrating the game’s impressive sales milestone, the developer seemingly teases a potential console release. After a fan noted how successful Content Warning would be if it were available on console, Landfall responded with the eyes emoji. No official announcement has been made just yet, but given the title’s continued success, it seems a viable next step.


A Console Version of Content Warning May Be on the Horizon

This isn’t the first time a console version of the game has been mentioned. In April, Landfall head of community Hanna Fogelberg noted that while the team was interested in bringing Content Warning to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, it was too early in the game’s life to make such a massive decision. Technical limitations were also cited as a major issue.


Similar to other viral hits like Lethal Company and Phasmophobia, Content Warning tasks four players with filming spooky content for a social media site called SpöökTube while managing their oxygen supply and film. Popular videos earn more money, and players meeting a certain viewer quota can continue their careers as content creators. If they fail, the run is a loss. As expected from the community, a number of mods have been introduced to make things easier.


Along with selling 2.2 million copies to date, 6.6 million players reportedly snagged the game for free during its launch period. This is particularly impressive given that the title was developed by a team of only five people, all of whom have continued working hard to address any glitches or bugs reported by the community. In early May, Content Warning introduced a new map, 13 new monsters, and more unique content, along with audio improvements and optimized video network performance.
