In the first episode of Dandadan, Momo Ayase awakens her psychic powers after her abduction by the Serpoian aliens. Afterward, she unlocks a multitude of abilities, including detecting auras, psychokinesis, impressive stamina and endurance, durability, and more. Along with these powers, she is also known for being highly intelligent, as many fans can see when she needs to problem-solve and figure out what to do next in a tight timeframe. Instead of breaking under pressure, like Okarun, she is able to stay calm and work through solutions.

What really stands out among her powers is psychokinesis, which allows her to pick up just about any object, despite its size and weight. With this, she can easily protect herself when in a dire situation on her own. Just like when she grabbed Turbo Granny after she possessed a maneki-neko doll, she can stop any danger in its tracks, giving her enough time to think about what to do next. Outside of just grabbing the item with her psychokinesis, she can also catapult it to cause serious damage and knock out an enemy. This gives her an easy edge over spirits and aliens.

Detecting auras is another aspect of Momo’s powers that really sets her apart. With this ability, she can locate just about any spirit in the vicinity, which can be especially useful to find spirits that are hiding. She was able to easily look into Okarun and find that Turbo Granny had cursed him, even after the big battle which had supposedly defeated her. Along with detecting hidden spirits, she can use this ability to aid those around her as well, especially in Okarun’s case, who often finds himself cursed.

When it comes to Okarun’s abilities, he doesn’t initially obtain them, just like with Momo. Instead, it takes some time before his powers are unlocked, and they only really come to him after he becomes cursed by Turbo Granny. Eventually, Turbo Granny is exorcised from Okarun, meaning that he can no longer retain the abilities he got from her. However, he soon gains a bit of these powers back, since he keeps getting exposed to the supernatural, and eventually restores his powers to their initial capacity.

With the Turbo Granny powers at his side, Okarun has quite a few abilities he can use. This includes incredibly fast speed and reflexes, impressive durability, a strong bite from his mask, transportation among telephone wires, and even astral projection. Mostly, his abilities are focused greatly on his speed and strength, and his ability to survive intense attacks or throws. With this quick speed, he is able to easily attack an enemy without them even being able to get one hit on him. This super speed would also allow him to escape at the last moment if needed, should he find himself in a dire situation.

Okarun’s additional supernatural powers from the Turbo Granny yokai can be useful when on his own as well. As he can travel through telephone wires, this can be used to escape when needed, or to get to another location quickly. Though he doesn’t use this ability frequently, it’s certainly something he can keep in his back pocket if necessary. His astral projection abilities are not fully understood just yet, since it is an ability he performed by accident. However, this is an easy way to separate from his body and spy on others to learn about hidden plans, or to find a solution without being in direct danger.

Though Okarun and Momo both have abilities that are useful when going up against spirits and aliens, one of them has abilities that will be more useful in the long-run. Okarun and Momo work together as a team to enhance their individual powers, but Momo has impressive abilities that shine on their own as well. Okarun has unmatched speed and strength, but Momo is not lacking in the strength department, either. She has impressive durability and can survive intense attacks just like Okarun, but with additional supernatural powers at her side. Most of what Okarun has over her is his speed.

Momo also possesses these powers naturally after unlocking them, whereas Okarun was only able to gain his after being cursed repeatedly by Turbo Granny. In just about any battle, Momo would be able to protect herself on her own, as she could use her ability to detect auras to find any hidden entities, and her psychokinesis to either catapult objects at an enemy, or grab them directly and throw them. Despite Okarun being physically stronger, it seems that Momo would have a better chance of fully defeating an enemy rather than just temporarily neutralizing the threat.
