South Korean developer and Nexon subsidiary Mintrocket has revealed its next game, Nakwon: Lost Paradise, a zombie survival adventure that’s a marked change from the company’s previous release, Dave the Diver. The survival extraction game will pit players against both zombies and other players in a PvPvE experience where even fellow survivors must be defeated in order to acquire necessary food and gear.
Nakwon takes place in Seoul, South Korea, after a zombie apocalypse wipes out much of the population around the globe and leaves the rest scrounging and fighting for survival. There is one shelter still standing in the city, and players must venture out to find valuable resources while also avoiding the roving zombies and sometimes hostile survivors.

In a recently released video, developer Mintrocket shared some pre-alpha gameplay footage of the game in action. Nakwon is going for more of a realistic feel, diverging from the cozy pixel art graphics of Dave the Diver. Armed with a third-person perspective, a backpack, and a baseball bat in a post-apocalyptic setting, the footage may call to mind games like The Division or extraction shooters like Hunt: Showdown. Other than the story synopsis and what’s shown in the teaser trailer and gameplay video, not much else is known about Nakwon for the moment. It can currently be wishlisted on Steam, and a pre-alpha test is scheduled for November 23 – December 4. It’s currently unclear what other platforms the game will be released on, if any.
Mintrocket’s previous game, for its part, has been experiencing some controversy recently, after Dave the Diver was nominated for The Game Awards’ Best Independent Game category. There were numerous fantastic indie games released in 2023, with development teams who undoubtedly worked very hard to create a high-quality and award-winning product. Unfortunately, Dave the Diver was not one of them, having been developed by a subsidiary of Nexon — one of the more well-known and wide-reaching publicly traded video game publishers — and many people have questioned how this fact was not known by the people who decided the award nominations.
The situation is unfortunate because the game was a huge and unexpected success, even for Director Jaeho Hwang, and may have had a chance at winning if nominated in another category. The game sold a million copies just 10 days after launch, and Dive the Diver is currently one of the highest-rated games of 2023. The adventure title puts players in control of the eponymous protagonist, a deep sea diver who manages a sushi restaurant and must keep it stocked with fish. The simple premise opens the door for engaging gameplay with exploration, quests, and research tasks.
