In Dead Island 2, Curtis’ mansion is locked up tight with the grounds full of zombies, so it’s easy to get stuck wondering where to find Curtis’ House Keys with seemingly no easy way in. However, a couple of simple steps are necessary to solve the mystery and gain access to the interior of Curtis’ mansion without needing to progress far in the game.
Updated May 31st, 2024 by Jacob Buchalter: Dead Island 2 is a game with a whole lot of content. You can already explore basically the entirety of the ‘beautiful’ landscape that is Hell-a, completing all sorts of side quests, mainline quests, and weapon hunts along the way. Now the Haus and SoLA DLCs for Dead Island 2 also add a whole bunch of new content and areas, but they don’t really change the base game much at all. All that said, let’s look back at the first time you meet Curtis Sinclair in DI2 and see if there’s anything different about the Death of the Party side quest now that the game basically has all the content it’s going to get.
How To Get Inside Curtis Sinclair’s Mansion
In a Surprising Twist, You Don’t Need the House Keys for This
After exploring the outside of the Sinclair Estate and stumbling across the locked Garage Side Door (which needs the Curtis’ Garage Keys to open), you’ll likely end up fighting Walkers right in the middle of the backyard when Curtis Sinclair calls down to you.
Look up, and you’ll see Curtis looking down at you, speak with him (the ‘talk’ input can be a bit tricky, so make sure to look directly at him), and accept the quest to get the power back up and running in Curtis’ Mansion. After agreeing to do this for him, Curtis will then let you inside his home.
Light Up The Curtis Estate
By That We Mean Turn on the Power
To get his house keys, you’re going to have to actually go through with turning the power back on for Curtis. To do this, head down the stairs to the end of the garden to find a small side house you can go inside. Head on in and defeat any walkers inside and then, like a genius, put some water on the ground using the Jerry Can in this room so that the broken wire on the ground can connect electrically to the other half of the wire, thereby completing the circuit.
After you do this, the house’s power should come right back (though who knows for how long). If there’s not a Jerry Can in here for you like there was for us, thankfully there’s another one to be found in Curtis’ garage.
How To Actually Get The Curtis’ House Keys
It’s Part of the Rewards at the end of the Death of the Party Side Quest
Once the power’s back on and you’re back inside the mansion, it should immediately become clear why Curtis needed his power back so desperately (and he does also mention why when first telling you about the power issue). Curtis needs the stair lift apparatus to get down the ruined stairs of his home, as he already had a hard enough time going down these stairs when they weren’t completely destroyed. For the final task of this side quest, you’ll:
- Press the button on the wall next to the stairs to start Curtis’ descent.
- The noise the apparatus makes is attracting Walkers, so you’ll have to defend Curtis as he rides the chair down.
- It’s an incredibly enclosed space, so you’ll want to make use of any attacks or abilities that can knock Walkers over during this fight.
- Once Curtis reaches the bottom of the stairs, you’ve basically completed this side quest.
Once he’s at the bottom, Curtis will have you follow him into the adjoining room, before sitting down in a nearby chair and thanking you for your help as well as giving you the rewards you’ve earned, which include:
- An Uncommon Rarity Golf Club
- Permission to loot anything in his house (though you were already free to do so)
- And of course, Curtis’ House Keys
You can now use Curtis’ House Keys to unlock various rooms inside the house to find more loot and collectibles. Now obtaining Cutis’ Safe Key is a whole other ordeal that you’ll likely have to come back for later on in your playthrough.
