Friday the 13th: The Game first launched in 2017 and was relatively well-received by fans of the asymmetrical multiplayer horror genre, with praise given for its homages to the slasher movie franchise that served as its source material.
Unfortunately, Friday the 13th: The Game development stopped earlier than expected due to licensing issues with the franchise. This kept the developers from realizing the full scope of their vision for Friday the 13th, but fans have still been able to enjoy the previously-released maps, skins, and game modes. That will change on December 31, 2024 when the Friday the 13th multiplayer servers are permanently shut down, but the game is being delisted a full year before that happens.

Friday the 13th: The Game is being delisted due to expired licenses, but the good news is that anyone interested in buying the game digitally before it’s removed can do so at a very low price. From now until December 31, Friday the 13th: The Game is only $4.99, and all its DLC is only $0.99. For next to nothing, horror fans can pick up Friday the 13th: The Game prior to it being delisted on December 31 and play it as much as they’d like until the servers are turned off on December 31, 2024, giving them a year to enjoy the game.

While Friday the 13th fans will no doubt be sad to see the game removed from sale and then permanently shut down, the bright side is that there are other asymmetrical multiplayer horror games to check out. The big one is obviously Dead by Daylight, a multiplayer horror game that features all kinds of iconic slasher movie villains on its roster. Friday the 13th villain Jason Voorhees is not part of the Dead by Daylight roster at the time of this writing, but perhaps the hockey mask-wearing brute can make his debut as part of some future update.
Gun Interactive, the publisher of Friday the 13th: The Game, has since gone on to make The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game, a video game adaptation of another slasher movie franchise. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre reviews have been mostly positive, and it may help fill the void that will be left when Friday the 13th is removed from sale on December 31, 2023 and then shut down on December 31, 2024.
