In a world filled with demons and demon slayers, there are other beings who risk their lives to protect humanity from the demons that roam the land. One of the contributing factors to the Demon Slayer universe are the Kasugai Crows, while these crows are most of the overlooked and are not majorly highlighted, they are an important part of the Demon Slayer Corps.
The Kasugai Crows are known to update the demon slayers on missions and other updates in real-time. Even though they are usually seen as simple messengers, they also play a vital role in protecting the Demon Slayers from demons.
What Are The Kasugai Crows, and What Is Their Purpose?
Allies of the Demon Slayer Corps and Personal Navigators
The Kasugai Crows are responsible for a wide network which allows the Demon Slayers to receive important updates on missions, demon sightings and other various information such as where to go and what to do. The crows are the quickest way to pass information onto the Demon Slayers so they are updated with their next job. The Kasugai are also allocated to individual Demon Slayers and serve as a medium of communication as and when needed. The Kasugai crows also act as a companion when it comes to the journey of a Demon Slayer, and accompany them on their journeys.
Tanjiro, Zenitsu, start running! Both of you head over to your next destination! – Matsuemon Tennoji (Kasugai Crow)
When it comes to ancient Japanese culture, crows have a deep symbolic meaning and are known to bring positive attributes such as good luck, wisdom and guidance. The Kasugai crows here are symbolic as they fulfill their duty to protect the Demon Slayers and, in turn, the lives of many innocent humans. The crows are also able to travel long distances in order to deliver a message if needed. The Kasugai crows are, however, no ordinary birds as they are shown to be intelligent creatures capable of speech and understanding human behavior. They are also seen to be loyal towards the Demon Slayer they are assigned to and always ensure to communicate important information.
Who Are The Crows, and Who Are They Assigned to?
Each Kasugai Crow Has Their Own Unique Personality.
In the series, there are many Kasugai crows who are assigned to an individual Demon Slayer, each crow has their own personality. Tanjiro’s crow is known as Matsuemon Tennoji, a strong-headed and strict crow that relays information to Tanjiro in an authoritative manner. Even though Matsuemon is strict towards Tanjiro, he still guides and provides Tanjiro with the information needed to carry out his missions.
Inosuke’s Kasugai crow is Dongurimaru, who is afraid of Inosuke because of his repeated attempts at trying to eat him. Zenitsu also has a Kasugai crow, but instead of a crow, he is given a sparrow known as Ukogi, otherwise known as Chuntaro. Chuntaro is one of the iconic Kasugai crows in the series and is the only sparrow left alive after demons killed his family, Chuntaro is also the only Kasugai crow incapable of proper speech.
Tengen Uzui’s Kasugai crow is Nijimaru and is just as fashionable as he is. Nijimaru is seen to be wearing jewels. The leader of the Demon Slayer Corps, Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s Kasugai crow, did not have a name but served as Kagaya’s personal messenger. The Kasugai crows are an important part of the Demon Slayer Corps and are the watchful eye of the organization. They can also be called the spine of the Demon Slayer Corps along with the Kakushi (attendants of the Demon Slayers) and the maids at the Butterfly Mansion, as they provide their services while risking their lives so that they can collaboratively defeat the demons. This just goes to prove that the Kasugai crows are not just messengers but allies in the fight against demons, as they operate together to defeat Muzan and to put an end to all the killings of innocent humans.
