There’s plenty more to experience in Destiny 2: The Final Shape even after the events of the main campaign. Once the Pale Heart opens to all Guardians, players can then explore all of its new areas in hopes of finding more secrets and uncovering more ways to help in the fight against the Witness.

After the campaign, a Hunter named Micah-10 will ask players for help in finding missing ghosts, and she’ll reward you with new weapons. If you want to be as strong as you can before taking on the Witness in the featured raid in Destiny 2: The Final Shape, you’ll want to finish Alone in the Dark and its subsequent missions.

How To Start Alone In The Dark in Destiny 2

Before you can start Alone in the Dark, you need to finish Micah-10’s short series of Convalescence quests first. And, before you can do that, you need to finish Destiny 2: The Final Shape’s campaign.

After you’re done with the Iconoclasm mission, head down into the Arbor in the Lost City’s Tower, then speak with Micah-10 via the comms device. She’ll give you the first of the Convalescence missions. Finish all of these missions to unlock Alone in the Dark.

Simply put, Alone in the Dark is a repeatable version of the Convalescence quest series. Here, you’ll be doing all the things you did before, though you will have more freedom when it comes to where you want to do the first parts of it. For those who don’t know the steps, here they are:

  1. Find the missing Ghost in the search area indicated on your map.
  2. Go to any patrol zone and open Overthrow chests.
  3. Clear Cysts in the location tracked by the quest on your map.
  4. Return to Micah in the Arbor.

Find Missing GhostsA missing ghost in the Alone in the Dark quest in Destiny 2

In this step, Micah will ask you to track down a missing Ghost somewhere in the Pale Heart. It’s usually in a Lost Sector or some area that’s off the beaten path — either way, the general location of it will be on your map. Head to the marked location, then once the quest marker disappears, start looking around for a downed Ghost. They’re usually covered in an orange mist.

Open Overthrow Chests

Overthrow event in Destiny 2

Here, you need to go to any region with an active Overthrow event. Once you arrive at your destination, pull up your Ghost or look for floating objects to find mini-events. Complete these side activities, and an Overthrow Chest will spawn as a reward. Higher-tier Overthrow Chests grant more progress toward the quest. While you don’t necessarily need to bring a Prismatic subclass here, it’s still highly recommended.

Clear Cysts

The Blooming Deep lost sector in Destiny 2

This part of the Alone in the Dark quest can be a little long. First, you’ll need to follow manifestations of the Traveler (the white bird) until you reach an area that’s blocked off by Hive magic. Then, you need to go through a dungeon with one of the following objectives:

  • Sword Dance: Defeat three Hive Guardians using a Hive Relic Sword.
  • Aerial Ace: Destroy Taken Blights and defeat a Taken Wizard without touching the ground.
  • Slayer: Defeat an Ogre using orbs dropped by Hive Guardians.
  • Smothering Kindness: Destroy Blights and the dungeon’s final boss while cursed with the Weight of Darkness (no jumping or sprinting).
  • Searing Light: Break crystalks while avoiding a Watcher, then defeat the Hive Knight at the end.
  • Moth-Infested Cavern: Clear the cave full of Lucent Moths.

Return to Micah

Random roll of The Call in Destiny 2

Once all steps are done, return to Micah at the Arbor to receive a random weapon from Destiny 2’s new Pale Heart destination. Alone in the Dark can be played multiple times, and each run will bring you to a different cave and give different rewards. If it’s your first time playing Alone in the Dark missions, you will unlock the remaining Pale Heart weapons (the Hand Cannon, Fusion Rifle, and Sword).
