  • The true extent of Beerus’s power remains a mystery, but he possesses both Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego, making him the closest thing to a perfect fighter in the series.

Being a God of Destruction is no easy task for any mortal to accomplish in Dragon Ball. The very first, and most basic, of all requirements to become a Destroyer God is having unparalleled power, so much so that one has to be the most powerful being in their entire universe outside of their assigned Angels. Due to this, the very nature of such a God is predicated on their strength because to keep balance in their universe, their power must be unmatched.

However, Beerus is unique in his strength, even among all the Destroyers. Though his power seems a bit more ambiguous in the anime, the manga goes on to show the difference between him and everyone else below him, which includes most of the Gods of Destruction. In this article, let’s break down Beerus’s power and periodically go over how each of his appearances has put him on a level unmatched by almost everyone else in Dragon Ball.

Beerus Has Some Amazing Feats in the Series

Dragon-Ball-Super-Beerus-Vegeta

In his very first appearance in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods in 2013, Beerus showed a level of strength that was insane, even by Dragon Ball standards. By lightly tapping on a table and releasing a miniscule amount of his destructive energy, he annihilated half of a planet and then made short work of Super Saiyan 3 Goku, who was the strongest version of the Saiyan ever seen in the series at that point.

His easy victory over Super Saiyan 3 showed fans that this was a character who was far beyond anything that the heroes could do, to the point that it wasn’t until Goku got a massive power boost towards the end of the movie and unlocked the Super Saiyan God transformation that he could truly even stand up to Beerus. Though the Saiyan did far better this time around, it was eventually revealed that Beerus was barely even trying, only testing Goku to see how much he could take.

This fight was incredible, as both of the fighters moved far faster than light itself and clashed against each other so hard that they threatened to tear the very fabric of reality apart. Being a God of Destruction allows Beerus to have all the powers and abilities that befit this station, the most well known of which is the iconic energy of Destruction and Hakai.

However, Beerus has very rarely shown himself to be in a position of needing to use his destructive might to defeat anyone. The main reason is that everyone already knows where he is in the pecking order of the universe, which is why no one ever wants to mess with him. Before the Tournament of Power, Beerus won against all other Destroyer Gods in an exhibition match where they teamed up against him, and he was shown to erase entire characters from existence with minimal effort. It’s even implied that he could have easily taken out Moro towards the end of the arc when he offered to lend a hand.

Beerus’s Destructive Powers Are Second to None

Dragon Ball Super - Beerus's Hakai Technique

Since he is a God of Destruction, Beerus has all the destructive powers that come with being such a deity. The focal point from which these powers stem is God Ki, a specific kind of Ki that is an entirely foreign concept to most mortals due to how difficult it is to obtain and how strong one has to be to do so. This God Ki gives Beerus access to incredible power reserves that greatly boost his physical strength and speed and make his Ki attacks even more powerful.

This Ki also allows for Beerus to fully utilize Destruction, which is more commonly known as Hakai. This is a Destroyer God’s bread and butter, since this is what they use to make use of their duties to their full extent, destroying all the things that they need to. The most common use of this ability is shown by Beerus destroying planets or beings with very little effort.

However, this power is also very versatile. This is because those with the power of Hakai can infuse it into their regular Ki attacks to make them infinitely stronger than before and erase pretty much everything that these attacks come into contact with. This was seen by both Beerus and Vegeta in his Ultra Ego form, as they mixed the power of Destruction/Hakai into their traditional Ki attacks to form the Energy of Destruction.

At the beginning of the Granolah arc, Beerus tells Vegeta about this ultimate technique that is unique to the Gods of Destruction and even shows him his mastery over it. He says that Hakai can be used to fully realize the destructive potential of an inanimate object, which he demonstrates by only blowing up Vegeta’s armor with the attack and in doing so, sending the Saiyan flying and damaging him out of his Super Saiyan Blue form.

Beerus’s Full Potential Remains a Mystery

Dragon Ball God of Destruction Beerus Whis

Beerus serves as a moving goalpost for Goku and Vegeta, in the sense that whenever he is seen in action, he is always stated to be even stronger than what was previously thought. The most recent example comes in Chapter 101 of the official Dragon Ball Super manga. After Goku fully realized his True Ultra Instinct was the perfect form for him to use the Divine Technique in, he was the strongest he had ever been.

However, despite this, Beerus claims in Chapter 101 that when either he or Vegeta finally surpasses him in strength, he will nominate them as the next Destroyer God for Universe 7, which proves that they have not done so yet. This is because his true power has never been seen.

In the exhibition match, Beerus displayed proficiency in using Ultra Instinct as he could dodge and outmaneuver the other Gods of Destruction, though he hasn’t mastered the technique completely. However, he can still use it well enough to counter others, and with his own usage of Destructive powers and the nature of being a Destroyer, he can also use the abilities of Ultra Ego.

This shows Beerus as being the only character in all of Dragon Ball that can use both Divine Techniques, making him the closest thing to the perfect fighter in the series. There has never been an instance where he has had to use his full powers, but if there was, he could utilize both techniques and get on a level far above anything or anyone else in the entire multiverse.

Dragon Ball can be streamed on Crunchyroll and Funimation.
