Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson is attempting to hype Battlefield fans up for the series’ next entry, calling it one of the most ambitious projects in the studio’s history. While details on the next Battlefield game are scarce, Wilson says EA has brought together the best team to deliver an epic Battlefield experience.
Battlefield 2042 received largely negative reviews when it launched in 2021, with many citing technical issues and poor performance as the core reason. But fans of the series believed it had potential at its core, resulting in almost three years of post-launch support from EA and seven seasons worth of new content. EA’s dedication to the controversial title has led to Battlefield 2042 surpassing over 25 million players over the last twelve months, according to EA’s CEO. Wilson also says that the game’s massive fanbase is “energized” by what the team is doing and what’s coming next.

In Defense of Battlefield 2042’s Dead Space Crossover
Battlefield 2042’s Dead Space crossover has been divisive, but this may be the perfect time for Battlefield to embrace the unexpected.
During a financial earnings report for Q1 2025, EA CEO Andrew Wilson briefly touched on the next Battlefield game and the current state of Battlefield 2042. As support for Battlefield 2042 will end after season seven, EA is shifting its focus to the next Battlefield game, which Wilson says isn’t just one of the studio’s “top priorities,” it’s also “one of the most ambitious projects in [EA’s] history.”
EA Wants To Deliver Epic Battlefield Experience
After attempting to hype up the next Battlefield game, the CEO said that EA is giving the Battlefield team the resources and technology it requires to “deliver an epic Battlefield experience” and has brought together the very best team for the highly anticipated shooter. As for Battlefield 2042, Wilson believes each season of the game has shown that the team has a “unique ability to listen, learn, and draw inspiration from the community.”
While EA insists that it has listened to the Battlefield community, Battlefield 2042‘s seventh season wasn’t without controversy. Many of the game’s updates added a plethora of new maps, weapons, and quality-of-life improvements, but its final season sparked outrage after many realized that one of the two new maps was simply a small section of a much larger map.
Even though EA has confirmed that season seven will be the game’s last seasonal content update, a new roadmap for Battlefield 2042 reveals that there’s still some life left in the old girl yet. But if EA and DICE want the community to forget about the disastrous launch of 2042, it will need to stick to its word and make the next Battlefield game the most ambitious title in the franchise’s history.
