One Elden Ring player was close to completing an impressive no-hit run of the game, up until a boss apparently cheated to hit them. It wasn’t caused by a skill issue, but rather a pretty frustrating bug that ruins a lot of players’ experiences.

Elden Ring is Dark Souls developer FromSoftware’s 2022 hit. Just like many Soulslike games, some skilled players have challenged themselves even more in the already difficult title to achieve some impressive feats, such as not getting hit by enemies at all.

Redditor Waleedbro7 recently posted game footage in which they were fighting the Godskin Duo Great Enemy near the end of Elden Ring. They claim that they were close to finishing a run where they hadn’t taken any hits up until this particular point. They had managed to fell the boss with three hits from their Serpent-Hunter spear, after which a really frustrating thing happened: the monster manages to get in one last attack even though the game clearly showed that it was killed. Waleedbro7 was caught unaware, took the hit, and died while the Great Enemy was walking around, clearly not dead.

This kind of bug apparently happens all the time in Elden Ring, with other foes refusing to go down even though their health is clearly at zero. Other Redditors who commented on Waleedbro7’s video have tried to console them, saying that because their demise came at the hands of an unpredictable glitch, their hits and death don’t really count against their no-hit run. While there were also those who disagreed with this particular take, it certainly shouldn’t count since no one could prepare for such an issue.

Though this glitch is frustrating, Elden Ring also has a lot of other harmless bugs. Most of them involve weird changes to character appearances and funny animations which don’t really severely affect its highly acclaimed gameplay. Still, it is pretty annoying that even a well-crafted game like this isn’t immune to glitches and issues.

While it’s been nearly two years since the game launched and most players have already plumbed the depths of what it can offer, Elden Ring is gearing up for a big 2024 with the Shadow of the Eldtree expansion coming soon. There hasn’t been any new substantial update since it was officially announced on the game’s first anniversary last February, but some are speculating that an official release date may finally be announced on its second anniversary in 2024, if not sooner.
