Elden Ring’s Rivermouth Cave Walkthrough for Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree brought an entirely new storyline to play through and experience. However, the new map comes with a lot of unexplored regions and dungeons that aren’t vital to the main story either. In classic FromSoftware fashion, the world is just as fun to explore wildly as the main story.

The Rivermouth Cave is one of many dungeons that populate the land of the shadows. It has an optional boss and a particularly difficult section that will stump many players at first. Here’s everything you need to know about the dungeon.

Where To Find Rivermouth Cave in Shadow of the Erdtree

Rivermouth Cave is located in Map: Gravesite Plain in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. To reach the dungeon, players need to follow the given steps:

• First, travel to the Castle Front Site of Grace and follow the road going south to reach the Ellac River Site of Grace.
• Follow the river upstream and avoid any enemies in your way, finally reaching a large waterfall.
• Follow the wall beside the waterfall while going west, and you will find yourself at a cave entrance.
• Enter the cave and activate the site of grace.

Rivermouth Cave Walkthrough in the Elden Ring DLC

Once players are at the Rivermouth Cave site of grace, they should proceed forward. The first chamber they enter will contain four ordinary wolves. These enemies aren’t particularly tough to deal with. You will also find some Hefty Bones by pillaging the corpse in the room.

Follow the path and go left, leading players to a crossroads. The path going up will lead you to a closed chamber with two wolves and a sliver of meat. Meanwhile, the path going down will lead the player into a chamber with three wolves and a path leading up.

Go up the rocky platform and jump down. Here, the players will have to stand on the crumbling floor, which will open up, dropping them onto the lower level with a stream of blood going further down. Pick up the Shadow Realm Rune [1] from the body that fell with you and follow the stream of blood further down.

Here, players can either go up to reach the upper platform of the area they just came from, or they can go down and reach a hall with a large amount of Bloodfiends. The upper platform has four wolves, plus a Sacred Bloody Flesh for you to pick up, and it can be used to get out of the cave if you don’t want to fight the Bloodfiends yet.

How to Kill The Crowd of Bloodfiends in Rivermouth Cave

The first two bloodfiends will be on the winding path you’re on. One is in front of the path going back up, and the other is on a ledge overlooking the congregation a little further down. These enemies can be backstabbed easily if the player crouches and gets behind them.

For the rest of the bloodfiends, players can utilize one of two strategies. If you’re a melee player, you will need to slowly whittle down their numbers and bait the enemies to the winding path, killing them one by one.

However, life is much easier if you’re a mage player. Choose long-range spells, preferably AoE ones, and spam them on the incoming bloodfiends. Use the same strategy of running up the path to make the enemies come at you one by one if needed. Any faith players can use the Sacred Relic Sword to have the easiest time possible. With the right stats and an upgraded blade, you can wipe out the entire room with just two uses of the Wave of Gold Skill .

After the mobs are cleared, players can go into the boss room and challenge the Bloodfiend Chief, an optional boss that drops the Bloodfiend Hexer’s Ashes.
