  • Raising settler happiness in a large settlement with specific objects is key to unlocking this elusive achievement.
  • Some players have spent over 1,000 hours trying to get Benevolent Leader, while others have successfully completed it with unique strategies.

One Fallout 4 player claims to have spent well over 1,000 hours chasing the game’s most rare achievement before finally reaching their goal. With an estimated 20 million copies sold and many more players accessing Fallout 4 through services like Game Pass, only a small percentage of players have pulled off this specific feat.

With Fallout 4 sales skyrocketing thanks to the popularity of the live-action series streaming on Amazon Prime more than eight years after the game’s release, a new generation of achievement hunters is likely on the prowl. Still, there’s one achievement that has left even a lot of long-time Fallout scratching their heads for years.

Fallout 4 Players Are Recreating the TV Show’s Characters in the Game

Fallout 4 players share their accurate builds of a few characters from the highly acclaimed TV adaptation on Amazon Prime Video.

The achievement in question is Benevolent Leader, which players can only get by reaching maximum happiness in a large settlement, per the game’s description. Only about 7 percent of Fallout 4‘s broad base of players have been able to pull off snagging the Benevolent Leader achievement, with Reddit user ConnorHunter60 claiming that it took them 1,327 hours of playtime to put this feather in their cap. Raising settler happiness can be tricky, and this player seems to have just stumbled into the achievement, stating that they wandered into a settlement they had forgotten about, added a weight bench and a trading post, and saw the elusive achievement pop up surprisingly onto their screen.

Getting The Benevolent Leader Achievement

The game’s description of the achievement doesn’t really give much detail as to how to actually pull it off. While it states that Benevolent Leader must be achieved at a “large” settlement, that doesn’t actually refer to the number of settlers or the size of the plot of land, but rather, the number of buildings and objects the player has placed in it. Meeting the needs of normal human and ghoul settlers by providing them with sufficient food and water, defense, and beds that are sheltered from the elements will only raise their happiness to a maximum of 80, but their happiness can be boosted even higher by incorporating luxuries like animals (cats, dogs, and gorillas), shops, soda fountains, slot machines, weight benches, pommel horses, and phoropters. Some of these objects are available in the base game, while others were included in official add-ons like the Fallout 4 Vault-Tec Workshop DLC.

Other players in the Reddit thread have expressed their frustration in chasing the hardest Fallout 4 achievement and shared tips of how they pulled it off, with some suggesting a small population of four to seven settlers and a few saying to just use one. Others have been baffled by glitches in the settlement system, with bugs like a settlement suddenly registering no water (causing happiness to plummet) or the game randomly awarding the achievement before settlements have even been unlocked. However these players have been pulling it off, Benevolent Leader remains a highly coveted achievement in the Fallout community.
