Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail has introduced a higher level cap, new gear, and new raids. Players are scrambling to get their endgame gear sorted so that their statics can enjoy the latest high-end content, and with the complex math that goes into figuring out optimal builds, it is no surprise that many have questions.
Ranged DPS players such as Bards, Dancers, and Machinists will share a similar pool of late game items, but which items are Best in Slot (BiS) differs due to the jobs’ differing priorities. Keep reading to learn which Tomestone gear to buy, which raid gear to farm, and what food to eat for optimal damage contribution numbers.

Best In Slot Raid Gear For Bard In FF14 Dawntrail
Bard’s BiS Gear as of patch 7.01 is primarily Tomestone Gear, with some Light-heavy gear mixed in. The Neo Kingdom Gear is purchasable with Allagan Tomestones of Aesthetics from Zircon in Solution Nine (X:8.6 Y:13.5). The Light-heavy gear is obtained by trading tokens from the Arcadion Raids in to Hhihwi in Solution Nine (X:8.7 Y:13.4).

Stat & Buy Priorities
Prior to getting their hands on the Light-heavy gear, players can use the Neo Kingdom gear in all slots — or Item Level 690+ gear of their choice — prioritizing the following stats in order:

- Determination
- Direct Hit
For optimal gear farming, buy the Light-heavy pants first, followed by the chest piece.

Best In Slot Raid Gear For Machinist In FF14 Dawntrail
The Machinist, as the most selfish of the Ranged DPS Jobs, needs to bring damage and consistency to their raids. This means that the higher damage of the Light-heavy gear is of a higher priority than it is for Bards or Dancers. Plan to farm quite a few tokens before heading into the next raid tier.

Best In Slot Raid Gear For Dancer In FF14 Dawntrail
The Dancer, unlike the Bard, will exclusively take the Neo Kingdom Armor, as the stats on the Chest piece and Pants will give players one breakpoint higher on Damage Resistance and Skill Speed, both more important to the partner focused Dancer than a small damage increase. Additionally, some of the Materia differs, although much of the rest stays the same.
