Final Fantasy 14 confirmed that it will join Square Enix at the annual Gamescom event from August 21 through 25, over a month after the launch of Dawntrail. While it is not clear what Final Fantasy 14 will announce at Gamescom, attendees can try out a new battle challenge against Valigarmanda, one of Dawntrail‘s 8-player bosses.

The annual Gamescom event is a trade show hosted in Cologne, Germany, with Gamescom Opening Night Live taking place on August 20. While some companies such as Sony and Nintendo have declined to appear at Gamescom, other studios like Square Enix, Sega, and The Pokemon Company have confirmed their attendance. Final Fantasy 14‘s appearance at Gamescom will be just three weeks after the launch of Patch 7.05, which will include the Cenote Ja Ja Gural treasure map dungeon, the first four Savage fights of The Arcadion raid series, and balance updates for Jobs such as the Viper and the Black Mage.

In an interview, Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida says that some familiar foes may still have a role to play in the popular MMO.

Although Final Fantasy 14 answered some players’ requests during the 2024 Japan Expo in Paris, the developers are not done participating in European events. According to a Lodestone post, Final Fantasy 14 will be at Gamescom from August 21 through 25. Final Fantasy 14 will be at Hall 9.1, Booth B-054 of the Koelnmesse show floor. Final Fantasy 14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida will be in attendance, and most of the stage program will be streamed on Twitch. While it is not clear what will be revealed during Gamescom, Dawntrail will have features such as the Futures Rewritten (Ultimate) raid, the Shades’ Triangle exploration zone, Cosmic Exploration, and the Limited Job called Beastmaster introduced in future updates.

  • Square Enix will be in Hall 9.1, Booth B-054 of the Koelnmesse.
  • A Battle Challenge against Valigarmanda will be available for attendees to try out.
  • Producer and director Naoki Yoshida will be in attendance.
  • Final Fantasy 14 will broadcast a Twitch stream through Gamescom.

It remains to be seen if any of those topics will be touched upon by Square Enix during Gamescom. As was the case with the Final Fantasy 14 PAX East panel in March, Gamescom attendees will have a chance to win a coveted prize for taking part in a Battle Challenge on the show floor. The serpentine boss Valigarmanda will be available throughout Gamescom for groups of eight players to challenge. The winners will receive an “I Beat Valigarmanda” t-shirt while supplies last.

The level 50 dungeon, Snowcloak, will also be playable for newer players to try out as well. With continued updates to Final Fantasy 14 arriving over the rest of 2024, only time will tell if Square Enix will surprise Gamescom attendees with any announcements.
