Final Fantasy 14 offers players a variety of content, ranging from more calm and cozy with the Island Sanctuary or the possibility of customizable player housing, to challenging duties, such as the various raids that can be unlocked. The Extreme trials are a part of the latter category, demanding more from players to be completed successfully – but offering quite interesting rewards as a result.

In each expansion, the game adds a series of new mounts that can be obtained through said expansion’s Extreme trials. If a player is lucky (or dedicated) enough to get every mount, a special reward awaits them. In Heavensward, the legendary Firebird was the special mount added to Final Fantasy 14, and here you’ll learn how to get it!

Requirements To Get The Firebird Mount In FF14

final fantasy 14 litany of peace

The Firebird can only be obtained by players who reach at least level 60. It is also necessary to have completed all Main Scenario Quests up to “Litany of Peace”, the last one necessary to unlock every step the player must go through to get the mount.

Ideally, though, players must be at least level 80 to acquire the mount. This is because while it is possible to access this content at level 60, as it was originally designed to be played, it can be difficult to find a party for it, be it through the Duty Finder (which is never recommended for content focused on higher difficulty levels) or the Party Finder, on top of being more time-consuming. As a result, the best way to do this is using the Unrestricted Party feature and completing the encounters unsynced.

How To Unlock The Quest ‘Fiery Wings, Fiery Hearts’ In FF14

Once the player meets every requirement, they should head to Foundation to speak to Torsefers (X: 11.7, Y: 11.6). The closest aethernet point is The Last Vigil, as the character is located just a little to the south of Fortemps Manor’s entrance. He will be marked with a blue quest symbol, indicating a content unlock quest, called “Gods of Eld”, which is the one that must be initiated. The next step is to go to the Rising Stones and enter the solar, where the quest will be completed. Three other quests will be available after that: “Thok Around The Clock”, “The Diabolical Bismarck”, and “When The Bough Wakes”, all available with Unukalhai (X: 6.0, Y: 5.0) in the Rising Stones. After accepting them, the player will have to complete the trials Thok Ast Thok (Extreme), The Limitless Blue (Extreme), and Containment Bay S1T7.

Completing the trials unsynced is advised, as it makes the process a lot easier and faster. Many of the Extreme trials from Heavensward are soloable at level 80, but some might prove difficult to do alone. The mechanics in Containment Bay S1T7 (Extreme) and Containment Bay P1T6 (Extreme) can kill players even at level 90. Remember to use damage mitigation when facing Sephirot, and pay attention to the moves that might knock you out of the platform when fighting Sophia.

Following that, in the same place as before, Unukalhai will have other quests for the player to pick up: “A Fiendish Likeness” and “The Fate of Stars”. Accepting and completing the first quest will be necessary to unlock the trial Containment Bay S1T7 (Extreme), while the second will lead to the quest “Balance Unto All”, also picked up with Unukalhai, which will unlock the trial Containment Bay P1T6.

Completing those will make the quests “A Deific Simulacrum” and “The Last Pillar to Fall” available with Unukalhai, once again in the same place inside the Rising Stones. They will in turn unlock the trials Containment Bay P1T6 (Extreme) and Containment Bay Z1T9. Unukalhai will have yet another quest for the player, “A Demonic Duplicate”, which will unlock Containment Bay Z1T9 (Extreme).

final fantasy 14 alys

There are two more Extreme trials players will have to unlock, and both quests will be available with Alys (X: 21.7, Y: 8.6) in Mor Dhona, inside Seventh Heaven. The first, “Thordan’s Reign”, can be picked up after the player completes the Main Scenario Quest “Heavensward”. After speaking to Alys, talk to the Wandering Minstrel (X: 21.7, Y: 8.7) in the same room to unlock The Minstrel’s Ballad: Thordan’s Reign. The second, “Nidhogg’s Rage”, can also be picked up with Alys in the same place, but only after the player has progressed through the Main Scenario enough to have completed the quest “Litany Of Peace”. Like before, all it takes is to speak to the Wandering Minstrel to unlock The Minstrel’s Ballad: Nidhogg’s Rage.

Each of the Extreme trials unlocked has a mount that might appear among the rewards for completing the duty. It is necessary to acquire all of them to unlock the Firebird’s quest, so completing the trials once likely won’t be enough. It’s worth noting none of those mounts is a sure drop, which means they will only sometimes appear among the loot after completing the trial. As a result, it can take a few tries to get the mounts, but at higher levels it’s easy to complete them really fast.

Below are listed all the mounts the player needs to get to unlock the “Fiery Wings, Fiery Hearts” quest in Final Fantasy 14:

How To Get The Firebird In Final Fantasy 14

final fantasy 14 walking atlas fiery wings fiery hearts

Once all of that is done, the quest “Fiery Wings, Fiery Hearts” will be available with the Walking Atlas (X: 7.5, Y: 6.1), a Hyur NPC found in Idyllshire. After recognizing you as the lanner tamer, he will direct you to meet his mysterious employer at the Snail, also in Idyllshire. Arriving there, you’ll meet the Wandering Minstrel, who will tell you about the legend of the Firebird and say he believes the mythical creature might answer your call after you successfully tamed the other birds. Offering you a whistle, he will direct you to the southeast of the Dravanian Hinterlands, where you must interact with a glowing marker (X: 37.3, Y: 31.7) and use the whistle.

The location is upon a cliff near the
entrance to Coethas Western Highlands
. If you can’t fly in the Dravanian Hinterlands, it’s easier to get to the destination by teleporting to Falcon’s Nest and entering the map through Coerthas.

This will trigger a cutscene in which the Firebird will appear, and after that, you’ll complete the quest and receive the Firebird Whistle. The item will be in your inventory, so don’t forget to use it to add the Firebird to your mount collection.
