Fortnite has become the gathering point for many of pop culture’s biggest brands. From Marvel superheroes to Ryu from Street Fighter and characters from The Witcher, Fortnite truly has something for everyone. Recently, the game added Snake and Raiden from the Metal Gear Solid franchise alongside some notable accessories from the series, such as Raiden’s sword. The addition of characters from MGS could hopefully be the start of a number of trends in Fortnite.
Metal Gear Solid was originally released in 1998 as a successor to the Metal Gear games. The original MGS title went on to become iconic and helped to create awareness around its creator, Hideo Kojima. The influence of Metal Gear on the gaming industry is hard to overstate, and Hideo Kojima has remained one of gaming’s most recognizable auteurs with titles like Death Stranding and the recently announced horror game OD. While Metal Gear is synonymous with Kojima for many, he departed from Konami after the fifth entry, and the franchise has remained largely dormant until recently with the release of a collection of remasters and the announcement of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a remake of the third MGS game.
Fortnite: How To Get The Giant Chicken Skin (Family Guy)
The Giant Chicken from Family Guy arrives on the Fortnite island in search of his nemesis, Peter Griffin.
Snake is the face of Metal Gear, so it makes sense that he is among the first MGS characters to be featured in the game. Alongside his most recognizable appearance as Solid Snake, there is an Old Snake outfit choice that can be equipped, taken from his appearance in Metal Gear Solid 4. Alongside Snake, Fortnite added Raiden, the protagonist of MGS 2, which remains one of the best Metal Gear games. Raiden also has multiple appearances, one without his mask and one with it. Unlike Snake, who is unlocked by completing challenges, Raiden can be purchased alone or in a bundle with some of his notable accessories in the in-game store. These two should be just some of the first MGS characters introduced to Fortnite.
Metal Gear Has a Long Legacy
Metal Gear has existed for decades, and as such, it has plenty of iconic characters to pull from. On top of Snake and Raiden, other major characters like The Boss, Big Boss, Revolver Ocelot, and Meryl would be perfect candidates for inclusion in the game. The Boss especially would make sense, considering the fact that MGS 3 is being remade. Big Boss and Revolver Ocelot are just as iconic of Metal Gear as Snake and Raiden, with Big Boss serving as the protagonist in some entries. Given the fact that MGS is so beloved and finally receiving new releases, Fortnite should add some of its other most recognizable characters.
Fortnite Should Team Up With Konami Again
Beyond Metal Gear Solid, Konami owns many beloved franchises that would be great picks for Fortnite. The Castlevania anime has kept the franchise fresh in the hearts and minds of fans, and 2022 saw the announcement of Silent Hill f and a remake of the second entry in the series. With Silent Hill making a return and Castlevania maintaining a dedicated audience, the appearance of characters from each in Fortnite would be a surefire hit. Including these long-running franchises in a game like Fortnite would also help to introduce them to a newer generation of gamers who missed out on the peak of their popularity.
Hopefully, the appearance of Snake and Raiden in Fortnite will be the start of a long-running collaboration between Konami and Epic Games. Metal Gear Solid has plenty of iconic characters that deserve an appearance in the game, and other beloved Konami franchises would be great for Fortnite to pull from. While fans will have to wait for more news about the potential of additional Konami series being represented, they can work to unlock Sold Snake in Fortnite by completing the necessary challenges right now.
