Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End – Strongest Characters, Ranked

The currently airing anime series, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, has brought with it a story of lore and adventure like no other. Portraying an epic tale that few could rival, Freiren showcases a fantasy world in the aftermath of the defeat of the Demon King.

While most members of the party of heroes that defeated the Demon King are long dead, Freiren the mage remains alive and kicking, and she embarks on a new adventure. During this new adventure, Freiren comes across old enemies and old friends, and many of them seem exceptionally powerful. In the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End series, how do they compare to the warriors of the past and each other in terms of strength?

With a diverse pool of characters come mages, warriors, and demons from all spheres. While some of these characters pale in comparison to their competition, others, like Serie, remain unchallenged and undefeated. From characters such as Eisen who faced the Demon Lord alongside Himmel, to upcoming characters such as Stark and Fern who are beginning to make their name known in the world of swords and magic, the strongest characters in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End display not only their strength in battle, but also their growth and development.

15 Fern

Became A First-Class Mage Under Frieren’s Guidance

At the beginning of the series, Fern was taken under Frieren’s wing as a temporary apprentice during Frieren’s stay with Heiter. However, due to Heiter’s machinations, Fern ended up remaining Freiren’s apprentice and has journeyed with her ever since. As Frieren’s apprentice, when it comes to the mages of the current era, Fern is without a doubt one of the most powerful.

The speed and power of her offensive spells have put many to shame, even if they do have a vaster mana pool or more experience. During the First-Class Mage Exam Arc, when a mage was needed to assist Frieren in defeating her clone, Fern was the only one who could stand up to the task and eventually became a First-Class Mage.

14 Eisen

A Fearful Yet Fearsome Dwarven Warrior

Not much is known about the dwarven warrior Eisen; however, as a warrior of the Hero’s party, Eisen is by no means weak. Despite growing so old and his body being weaker than it was in his prime, Eisen remains able to jump from unimaginable heights with no damage. Moreover, he serves as Stark’s master and can keep up with the youngster during training.

As a warrior, Eisen has fearful tendencies; however, his fear just makes him more determined to escape any situation alive. Despite his fearfulness, Eisen would never abandon his comrades and always rise to the challenge. By copying Eisen’s techniques, Stark managed to give the demon Linie a run for its money.

13 Stark

A Warrior Similar To His Master

Frieren’s new party consists of herself, Fern the mage, and Stark the warrior. Like his master, Stark prefers not to get violent, as he is easily intimidated. However, when he makes up his mind, he shows unbelievable power. Before leaving his master’s place, Stark and Eisen were in battle, and Eisen struck Stark like he would an enemy.

This was not because Eisen and Stark had a falling out, but because Eisen grew afraid of Stark, and his instincts kicked in. To make even Eisen the warrior feel fear, Stark’s ability is no joke. He has continually proven it, as seen in his battle against Linie and the Solar Dragon.

12 Old Man Voll

A Senile But Powerful Guardian

This elderly dwarf is respected to the utmost in the world of this anime. Despite being very old, even by the standards of a dwarf, Old Man Voll retains his fighting abilities and protects his village due to a promise he made to his late wife hundreds of years ago. Voll’s dedication to protecting his village is incredible, and even in his old years, he’s still capable of putting down demons and monsters.

Voll is often seen as senile and rarely speaks. However, when he comes across Stark, he puts the young warrior on the ground with little effort. As a friend of Frieren, Voll trains Stark during the duration of Freiren’s party in his village.

11 Lernen

Serie’s Apprentice Is Not To Be Taken Lightly

As an apprentice of Serie, Lernen’s magical prowess is among the best in the current world of Frieren. After the mage class system was established, Lernen was the first-ever first-class mage, and he has survived to this day. In terms of magical abilities, Lernen is capable of creating golems that can be used for various purposes. The golems he creates are incredibly sturdy, as seen during the second part of the first-class mage exam.

In addition to his incredible golem-creating skills, Lernen also used an incredible offensive spell that was capable of breaking through Frieren’s defensive spell. He was also capable of seeing the instability in Frieren’s mana restraint at first glance. While Lernen is generally seen as modest and cautious, the mage challenges Frieren to a duel to leave a mark as Serie’s disciple.

10 Kraft

This Ancient Monk Is More Than Meets The Eye

Not much is known about this current monk and former warrior; however, Kraft is undoubtedly a powerful combatant. While most elves, like Serie and Frieren, have been around for a long time, they still look like children. Kraft, on the other hand, looks like a fully grown, middle-aged man, leading many to wonder just how long he’s lived. When Kraft spoke with Frieren, he mentioned that most of the people who knew of his past adventures were all dead.

In terms of sheer ability, to have survived that long, even through the dark, war-torn age of demons, Kraft must possess formidable abilities. His ability to instantly sense Ubel’s true nature speaks highly of him. To ensure his acts did not become completely forgotten, Kraft began worshipping the goddess, believing she would at least remember his good works.

9 Denken

This Imperial Mage Has Experience On His Side

This imperial first-class mage was raised by none other than Macht, the strongest of the Seven Sages of Destruction. Denken began chasing power and influence to save his wife’s life. However, before he obtained the necessary power and influence as an imperial mage, his wife died. Even after that, the mage continued to work hard, and now few mages can stand up to him.

In terms of sheer skill, Denken’s ability as a mage is top-notch. After becoming a first-class mage, he received the spell Mistilzela from Serie, which enabled him to counter Macht’s Diagoldze. Denken’s prowess comes partly from his vast experience as a mage. After living a life as an imperial mage, Denken gained a ton of experience facing the inner threats in the imperial court.

8 Flamme

Humanity’s Esteemed Mage

Frieren’s mentor, Flamme, is undoubtedly one of the most powerful human mages to ever exist. As the person who managed to train Freiren into what she is today, many wonder what sort of person Flamme is. Interestingly, Flamme was a student of Serie, one of the most powerful individuals in the world.

Despite her relatively short life, Flamme left her mark on history and is still known among humans today. Although countless years have passed, one of the magic barriers that Flamme cast is still in tip-top shape and remains capable of preventing demons from entering cities to this day.

7 Himmel

The Hero

As the Hero who journeyed with Frieren, the mage, Heiter, the priest, and Eisen, the warrior, to defeat the Demon King, Himmel is no doubt a powerful warrior. While he had help, many had tried to defeat the Demon King, but only Himmel and his party succeeded, which revealed that there was something incredibly special about him.

Himmel was a serious-minded and charismatic person who cherished lives and gave people hope. Through his interactions with the other members of his party, Himmel’s kind nature is depicted as Frieren and Heiter picked up habits of helping people. With his sword, Himmel ended many demons and left his legacy in the world.

6 Frieren

The ‘Lazy’ Elven Mage

As the mage who accompanied the Hero on his ten-year journey to defeat the Demon King, Frieren plays an important role in the series and is by no means weak. Her true mana output is so immense that even some of the Seven Sages of Destruction have considerably less mana than her.

Despite having a ton of mana, Frieren learned how to restrict her mana output to deceive demons from Flamme. And after practicing the skill for countless years, limiting her mana has become a natural state for her. Apart from her talent for using magic, Frieren is also very skilled in analyzing spells and techniques. When fighting an opponent, Frieren usually analyzes their techniques and develops counterattacks for them.

5 Macht

A Sage of Destruction

While the Seven Sages of Destruction are all powerful in their own right, they are not all on the same level. In the Frieren anime series, Aura the Guillotine, one of the Seven Sages, has been revealed to be a powerful sorceress who turns people weaker than her into her faithful puppets; however, she is merely one of the weaker of the Seven Sages.

Meanwhile, Macht is one of the most powerful of the seven and even denotes himself as the strongest of them all. Despite being a mage, Macht’s physical prowess is unrivaled among many, and few can stand up to him.

4 Schlacht

The Demon King’s Right-Hand Man

While the Seven Sages of Destruction are the most powerful members of the Demon King’s army, the demon known as Omniscient Schlacht was given a rank higher; he was the close confidant and right-hand man of the Demon King himself.

Schlacht has the ability to see the future. He can apparently see countless future visions and their possibilities and, therefore, develop a counterattack for them. As the right-hand man of the Demon King, Schlacht coordinated the Seven Sages of Destruction and relayed the Demon King’s orders to them. With his ability, Schlacht is said to be able to see up to a thousand years in the future, and he allegedly died in his battle against the Hero of the South as they took each other out.

3 Hero Of The South

Humanity’s Strongest

The Hero of the South is known as such because of the heroic deeds he performed before Himmel and Frieren met and started their journey to defeat the Demon King. Said to be humanity’s strongest, the true name of the Hero of the South is unknown, but he was beyond powerful.

He managed to face all Seven Sages of Destruction and the Demon King’s right hand, the Omniscient Schlacht, while killing three of the Seven Sages. While mages like Frieren can kill some members of the Seven Sages, facing them all and managing to kill three is a feat like no other.

2 Serie

The Elven Warmonger

Undoubtedly one of the strongest characters in the series, this elven mage stands above countless others in skill and knowledge. Serie was the mentor of Flamme and was known for her broad knowledge of magic. She often refers to herself as a great mage of the mythical era and lives to this day.

Like Frieren, Serie often comes across as cold and hardly expresses emotions. However, she often enjoys fighting strong people and can be called a warmonger. As seen in Frieren, Frieren constantly restrains her mana output, and her unrestrained mana output is simply monstrous. However, Serie’s restrained mana output rivals Frieren’s unrestrained one, and few know the true extent of her capabilities.

1 Demon King

Absolute Evil

As seen in the Frieren anime series, demons are creatures with no form of empathy and only do things that suit themselves. Despite their high sense of individuality and selfish methods, they all seemed to obey one person—the Demon King—and were exceptionally loyal to him. As most demon societies are based on strength, the Demon King was undoubtedly a very powerful individual.

As the leader of the demons, the Demon King waged war on humans for centuries and even ordered his subordinates to massacre the elves. After reigning for a long time, the Demon King was eventually ended by Himmel the Hero’s party. However, before them, many had tried and failed, dying in the process.
