There’s a myriad of different animals and creatures in Genshin Impact, some antagonistic, some not. From the tiniest crystal-fly to the All-Devouring Narwhal, there are mighty bosses, crafting materials, and even some animal companions that help their respective owners with battles, commissions, and puzzles.
Genshin Impact: Best Daily Commissions, Ranked
Not every Genshin Impact Commission is created equally. Some are simply more rewarding, or at least quicker to complete.
Some companions deal damage, some heal, and some even lure enemies away from the player on the field. Whether a four-star or five-star, each character’s little friend can do a few different things – but which ones are the most useful, versus the ones that are just adorable?
9 The Wolf Within (Razor)
Lightning Fang
Razor’s inner wolf is unleashed during his Elemental Burst, dealing Electro damage to all nearby opponents and fighting in tandem with him on the field. The Wolf Within appears as a massive, incorporeal werewolf figure over Razor’s shoulder, awfully reminiscent of a certain anime superpower…
The Wolf Within typically only appears during Razor’s Burst, but he also manifests for one of Razor’s idle animations, ruffling his hair.
8 Ushi (Arataki Itto)
Masatsu Zetsugi: Akaushi Burst!
Auxiliary member and mascot of Inazuma’s fabled Arataki Gang, Ushi, takes the stage for Arataki Itto’s Elemental Skill – his tiny bull friend can be dropped or thrown to deal Geo damage and lure opponents away from Arataki Itto himself.
When Arataki Itto’s Skill is prioritized in leveling, Ushi can provide a pretty impressive amount of Geo damage, which can combine with other elements for the Crystallize reaction, providing shields for Itto and his team. Atta boy!
7 Baron Bunny (Amber)
Explosive Puppet
Go-go Baron Bunny! Amber’s puppet goes out with a bang for her Elemental Skill – she tosses Baron Bunny in front of her (with a ranged toss available by holding the Skill button), and after a few seconds of dancing that lures in enemies, Baron Bunny explodes, dealing massive Pyro damage.
While Baron Bunny’s explosion takes four dancing turns to go off, he’s still useful for dealing Pyro damage – and for the hardcore Amber mains, he’s an integral part of flexing Amber’s impressive damage for those who choose to build her.
6 Oz (Fischl)
Midnight Phantasmagoria
Fischl’s raven friend swoops into battle and deals Electro damage across the field, and the player controls his flight direction. After the Burst’s initial hit is done, Oz remains on the battlefield to help the Prinzessin further in dealing with enemies.
Oz appears during Fischl’s Elemental Skill and her Elemental Burst, providing a speed boost and Electro damage. His continuous Electro application is useful for different Elemental Reactions in fights, as his AoE is tiny but mighty!
5 Cuilein-Anbar (Collei)
Trump-Card Kitty
While Collei’s kitty companion harkens back to her idol Amber’s bunny buddy, Cuilein-Anbar saves the day in Collei’s Burst, applying an AoE zone of Dendro damage to enemies within the vicinity.
New Genshin Impact Character Collei Explained
Collei will finally be released in Genshin Impact update 3.0, but she’s been in the lore ever since the webcomic came out.
This zone is super useful in collaboration with other elements, as the constant Dendro damage can collaborate with Hydro, Pyro, and/or Electro for varied Elemental Reactions. Cuilein-Anbar may be pretty similar to Baron Bunny, but he provides several more opportunities for reactions and massive damage.
4 Yuegui (Yaoyao)
Moonjade Descent
Yaoyao’s rabbit companion, Yuegui, provides both healing and Dendro damage depending on who (or what) is on the field with him. Yuegui appears during Yaoyao’s Skill and Burst, and when he’s not working hard, he sits in her woven backpack, chilling.
Yuegui shoots enemies with white radishes that deal Dendro damage; however, if a nearby team member has less than 70% HP left, he’ll throw the radishes at them, healing them based on Yaoyao’s Max HP. Either way, Yaoyao and Yuegui provide essential help with healing and damage, making her an essential off-field member of any team.
3 Guoba (Xiangling)
Guoba Attack
Guoba, get them! Xiangling feeds her bear buddy something spicy, which Guoba’s poor stomach can’t handle – he breathes fire on nearby enemies, applying Pyro and dealing damage. For players with Xiangling at constellation level 4 or higher, when Guoba disappears from the field, he leaves a spicy pepper behind, which provides a +10% attack boost for ten seconds upon picking it up. Beware, it’s super hot!
Guoba is the one animal companion with sizeable lore in Genshin Impact – he was initially Marchosius, God of The Stove. After the Archon War, he used his powers to revitalize the ruined land in Liyue, which greatly diminished his size, and he now works at Wanmin Restaurant alongside Xiangling instead. Talk about retiring to live the easy life.
2 Gentilhomme Usher, Surintendante Chevalmarin, And Mademoiselle Crabaletta, Or The Singer of Many Waters (Furina)
Set the stage! Depending on her Pneuma and Ousia alignments, Furina summons two different groups of companions to help her in battle. The Salon Members – Gentilhomme Usher, Surintendante Chevalmarin, and Mademoiselle Crabaletta – take the field, dealing Hydro damage to nearby enemies when Furina’s in Ousia alignment. For Pneuma, she summons The Singer of Many Waters, who heals nearby team members.
Why Genshin Impact’s Furina is a Must-Have Character
When it comes to exploration teams in Genshin Impact, the latest 5-star character, Furina, is someone that players won’t want to miss.
Furina’s collection of companions both offer different uses but proves her mettle as a versatile Hydro unit for any team. The Salon Members and The Singer of Many Waters provide damage and healing, as well as providing Furina the ability to walk on water for a short duration.
1 Honorable Mention: Mehrak (Kaveh)
Artistic Ingenuity
Mehrak assists Kaveh in both his Skill and Burst, dealing AoE Dendro damage to any nearby opponents. During Kaveh’s Burst, Painted Dome, Mehrak boosts Kaveh’s Normal, Charged, and Plunging attacks, and converts the physical damage to direct Dendro damage. After activating the Skill or Burst, Mehrak scans any Dendro Cores on the field and causes them to immediately burst, damaging enemies and healing Kaveh.
While Mehrak is a sentient briefcase, Kaveh’s design partner gets props for helping the poor architect in battle too!
