  • Summer Game Fest is confirmed to return in 2025.
  • Audience gave this year’s Summer Game Fest negative reviews, but viewership peaked 37% higher than last year.

While this year’s Summer Game Fest has just concluded, Geoff Keighley has already confirmed that the event will return in 2025. Summer Game Fest has been filling a gap in June that was once occupied by E3, an annual gaming event that brought together the biggest names in the gaming industry in a week-long fair full of announcements.

Summer Game Fest features several prominent companies and notable announcements from across the gaming industry. It was first held in 2020 as a fully digital event due to the pandemic. In 2023, the event was held in person in Los Angeles, marking its debut in the physical format. That year, the Summer Game Fest featured over 30 exhibitors and 50 game demos and concluded with a new Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth trailer. Although the numbers for 2024 were higher, the viewers’ excitement didn’t follow the trend.

Summer Game Fest Proves Horror Game Fans are Eating Good in 2024

This year’s Summer Game Fest showed off a slate of new horror titles in the works, giving genre fans great reason to celebrate.

This year’s Summer Game Fest’s reception was revealed in polls conducted by Keighley on his Twitter, where most viewers graded the show D or below on a parameter of A to D. Still, despite the audience’s frustration, it seems that Summer Game Fest garnered enough viewership for a 2025 edition, as announced by Geoff Keighley. The Summer Game Fest livestream on YouTube’s main channel peaked 37% higher than last year’s show. Keighley also said Summer Game Fest 2025 will see the return of Play Days from iam8bit, an invite-only event for media and content creators to play or get to know some of the games announced.

Geoff Keighley Confirms Summer Game Fest 2025

Before Summer Game Fest, Keighley had warned players to expect more updates on previously announced games than eye-popping world premieres, and even so, the audience’s expectations weren’t fully met. The Xbox Games Showcase 2024, with its lineup loaded with major titles from renowned franchises or new IPs, was considered by many viewers as the highlight of the announcement period.

However, Geoff Keighley can hardly be the only one to blame. After an excellent first quarter with games like Tekken 8, Dragon’s Dogma 2, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the remainder of 2024 shows a more modest lineup. May’s PlayStation State of Play didn’t please many fans. Nintendo is gearing up to announce the Switch 2, and although it promised a Direct for June with Switch releases in 2024’s second half, it has yet to announce a date.
