Kratos and Freya are tasked with freeing the Hafgufa, and there are a fun amount of elves and puzzles awaiting players who task themselves with this righteous quest. In doing so, there is a beautiful reunion of love, as well as clearer skies when venturing the Forbidden Sands that leads to more secrets.

The Fit for a King favor acts as this game’s version of the Valkyries, except some fights feature distinct difficulty increases.

Some battles against the berserkers will see Kratos outnumbered, and once players have claimed all 12 Berserker Souls, they will be able to face down King Hrolf himself, the violent and unworthy king who wields diabolical power that must be laid to rest for Mimir’s peace.

Within this vast location, Kratos and Atreus can stumble upon lost spirits from the Casualty of War branch of favors, in which they need help to move onto the afterlife.

While most of these quests do involve fetching items, it’s the narrative that players should be more interested in. Discovering what happened here, and the epic and secret battle that occurred between Thor and Faye as Mjolnir and the Leviathan Axe clashed all those years ago, is truly something to remember.

3 Freya’s Missing Peace

Help Freya Resolve Her Troubled Past as Wife to Odin and Daughter to Vanir

Kratos and Freya in Vanaheim

  • Complete The Reckoning
  • Enter the River Delta in Vanaheim
  • Reward: 1,500 Freya XP, Mardoll, Steel Harmony, Regal Vanir Garments

Freya hasn’t had it easy, and her journey mirrors Kratos’s own in more ways than one. Freya has suffered great loss as Vanir, and her marriage to Odin was one of pain and torment. Freya has lost her son, her life, and her freedom, all to Odin, and Freya’s Missing Peace side quest is where Freya finally gets to relieve some of her burden.

The quest itself involves lore entries on Freya’s wedding to Odin, and while there isn’t much combat here, there is a ton of exploration and story that is worth discovering, especially since players can get their hands on one of Freya’s best runic summons.

Yet, players won’t find treasure here, but instead the ominous final Valkyrie who rebels against her sisters and Freya in particular, and will remain forever loyal to Odin.

This is perhaps the toughest boss fight, and Kratos and Freya must bring their all to this battle if they are to defeat the last loyalist to Odin’s dying empire. It’s a difficult and rewarding battle that has emotional stakes for Freya, as the two Valkyrie Queens have a deadly heart-to-heart.

1 The Broken Prison

god of war ragnarok tyr

  • Complete the Main Story
  • Find the Asgard Remnant at The Raven Tree in Niflheim
  • Rewards: 3,000 Kratos XP, 1,000 Freya XP

Lurking after the credits roll is one of the best side quests, where Kratos and Freya will explore one of Odin’s abandoned prisons that has been fractured from the destroyed Asgard. Inside the prison, players will find the victims of Odin’s manipulation and forgery, where Odin kept people locked away to disguise himself. A heartbreaking story of victims, and Odin loyalists that must be killed, this is a prison worth discovering.

Deep inside the prison is also the actual Aesir God of War, Tyr, who comes not as an illusion, but as the truth. Tyr harbors great importance in the series, so finally freeing him is a decent reward, especially when players can now find him in new locations, meditating with the knowledge he has from other pantheons.
