Grand Theft Auto 6 is finally about to undergo an official reveal with a trailer, according to multiple sources. Fans have been waiting for news regarding GTA 6 for years, and while rumors have been everywhere, this apparent insider information may finally pull the curtain back on when players can expect to see the fully realized game for the first time.
Rockstar Games, outside of acknowledging that GTA 6 is in development, hasn’t shared much regarding the game. Not too long ago, Rockstar Games was hacked with an Amazon Fire Stick of all things, resulting in leaked footage of an in-development build appearing on the internet. The leak was a major blow to the company and those working on the project.
Now, according to a report from Bloomberg, multiple people within Rockstar Games have revealed that GTA 6 is expected to be given an official announcement this week, with a trailer to follow in December. The trailer is expected to release to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Rockstar Games. Unfortunately, as the sources don’t have permission to speak on the matter, they remain anonymous, and no further information was shared regarding the game or what to expect.
Like with any rumor of the game finally appearing in some form, this one should be taken with a grain of salt. However, there are some reasons to believe that it could be finally happening. Bloomberg notes that there are ‘people’ familiar with the plans, indicating that more than one person has made the same claim to the publisher. Further, the idea of the game launching a trailer next month could potentially coincide with The Game Awards, which is known to host major game trailers and first-time game premieres every year. The claim also seems to match another recent reveal window insider prediction.
Fans of GTA have been outspoken in their want for details on the upcoming title for a long time now, to the point of it having become something of a meme. While Rockstar Games is likely still generating a good deal of profit from GTA Online, many players have become tired of the title – an understandable feeling, considering GTA 5 is now a decade old. Red Dead Online had the potential to tide fans over for a few more years, but with the company no longer providing any new content in the game, it’s seen a significant drop in players.
With that said, some might argue that it’s smarter for Rockstar to not reveal the game’s official launch date until it’s closer to release. Bethesda Games revealed The Elder Scrolls 6 back in 2018, but even following Starfield‘s launch, the game is likely to release no earlier than 2026. The lead designer for Skyrim said the early Elder Scrolls 6 reveal was a mistake, and suggested that only revealing a game six months prior to its launch might be best. With a sequel to one of the biggest games and franchises of all time in the works, Rockstar is likely planning every step of this game’s reveal very carefully in order to maximize excitement and profits. While this leak could end up being another false alarm, at least fans won’t have to wait long to see if it comes true.
