  • Despite the swatting incident, Ned Luke’s online presence and engagement with fans, including streaming on Twitch, have been enjoyable, and it’s uncertain if he will return as Michael De Santa in Grand Theft Auto 6.

Grand Theft Auto 5 actor Ned Luke has been swatted during a Twitch stream while he was playing the Rockstar title. Luke plays Michael De Santa, one of the three protagonists in Grand Theft Auto 5, and continues to engage with the game’s community through his online presence.

Despite being a problem for some time now, swatting remains an issue that streamers online unfortunately have to deal with. While authorities have become more aware of the issue and punishments have gotten tougher for those who participate, it’s sadly an all-too-common occurrence. Just a few months back, Adin Ross was swatted while live on Kick, showing that creators of any size can fall victim. In worst-case scenarios, swatting can and has resulted in deaths. It can seriously shake up victims, and the anonymous nature of the crime is what makes it so difficult for authorities to deal with.

The footage from Ned Luke’s Grand Theft Auto 5 Twitch stream shows him pausing to take a phone call, seemingly from someone within his house. After a brief moment on the phone, he quickly comes off and explains exactly why he’s having to end the stream at such short notice. All things considered, Luke keeps a cool head as he’s informed of what is happening elsewhere in his home.

Luckily, it seems as though the situation was eventually resolved without harm coming to anyone, despite being a colossal waste of time and resources for those involved. Luke eventually tweeted out a single shrug emoji, indicating his frustration at the situation. Ever since he joined Twitch, it’s been a joy to see him cause chaos in Los Santos and explore every area of the Grand Theft Auto 5 map. Hopefully, this experience isn’t enough to see him move away from streaming so soon after first beginning.

It remains to be seen if Ned Luke will make a return as Michael De Santa in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6. While he has always engaged with fans online, there’s no doubt he has ramped up his presence with the reveal of Grand Theft Auto 6 now just around the corner. It could be a coincidence, and with the trailer coming in December, gamers don’t have too much longer to wait until they know for sure. However, it wouldn’t be the first time, as Franklin voice actor Shawn Fonteno reprised his role in Grand Theft Auto Online‘s The Contract expansion in 2021.
