Hogwarts Legacy was the best-selling game of 2023, beating out the likes of Star Wars, Zelda, Baldur’s Gate, Street Fighter, and even Call of Duty for that number-one spot. Naturally, Warner Bros. is already looking to capture that same level of success again, but that hasn’t been working out so well. The only way Warner Bros. is guaranteed to make Hogwarts Legacy levels of money is if it makes another one, making a sequel an inevitability at some point in the near future.

When a Hogwarts Legacy sequel does enter development, the studio behind it already has plenty of groundwork to build off. While Hogwarts Legacy nailed its atmosphere and combat, there are plenty of areas of improvement for the sequel, from the open-world activities to general quality-of-life improvements. And there are two QoL improvements that could be solved in one fell swoop.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 Could Work Wonders With a Dark Setting From Harry Potter Canon

Hogwarts Legacy 2 has a myriad of settings to choose from, but one from the Harry Potter canon can pave the path for darker events and choices.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 Could Make Great Use of a Pensieve

A Pensieve Could Allow Players to Replay Story Missions in Hogwarts Legacy 2

After playing through Hogwarts Legacy‘s main story for the first time back in February 2023, many fans soon realized that there was no way to replay any of the game’s quests, including both main missions and side activities such as companion quests. While this wasn’t a major issue in the grand scheme of things, it certainly would have been nice to have had this quality-of-life feature in the game, as otherwise players are forced to play through the entire game again from the very beginning just to experience the handful of missions they want to replay.

The ability to replay missions is a simple quality-of-life improvement that would be great to see added in Hogwarts Legacy 2, and there’s a handy in-universe way to explain the mechanic. First introduced in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, a Pensieve is a rare magical device that allows witches and wizards to store and relive their memories. In Hogwarts Legacy 2, perhaps players could use a Pensieve to rewatch previous cutscenes and replay their favorite missions again. A Pensieve is already briefly used in the first Hogwarts Legacy to relive the memories of the Keepers, so the groundwork has already been laid for a future Pensieve appearance.

A Pensieve Could Allow Players to Make Different Story Choices in Hogwarts Legacy 2

A Pensieve in Hogwarts Legacy 2 could have more than one function. On top of allowing players to rewatch previous cutscenes and replay missions, a Pensieve in Hogwarts Legacy 2 could allow players to see how the story would have unfolded if they had chosen different dialogue options. In the first Hogwarts Legacy, there were a handful of moral choices that affected the game’s story, such as choosing a companion for the first trip to Hogsmeade, choosing whether to turn Sebastian in or not, and the ultimate ending of the story.

These moral choices are something that many fans would like to see more of in a potential Hogwarts Legacy 2, and along with them should come the ability to view all of the different paths the game has to offer. Using the Pensieve to view these alternate paths wouldn’t affect the player’s save, but it would potentially encourage another playthrough if players preferred the outcome of a specific set of choices they didn’t originally make, such as which Hogwarts House they were sorted into.
