Although the taming and breeding of beasts in Hogwarts Legacy is a very interesting mechanic, the developers do not fully explain certain aspects and nuances, which raises various questions. One of them is the problem with increasing the beast species limit in Vivarium because you basically have to figure out how to do it yourself.

Fortunately, for players looking to increase their collection of the fantastical beasts and creatures you can find in Hogwarts Legacy, there is a way to increase the number of occupants in your Vivarium. Instead of finding out yourself, we’ve saved you the time and prepared a guide that will tell you how to increase your beast species limit in Hogwarts Legacy.

If the number of beasts you have found and want to tame is more than the space in your Vivarium, don’t worry, because there is one effective method you can use to work around this obstacle. While you can’t actually expand your current Vivarium or modify it in any way, you can unlock new ones instead. In total, you can unlock four Vivariums throughout the game to tame all kinds of beasts.

One Vivarium can hold as many as 12 animals, but only 4 species. That is, if you have already caught one of each of Puffskein, Mooncalf, Fwooper, and Graphorn, you can only put animals of the same species in one Vivarium; for others, you will need to unlock another.

Fortunately, there’s the requirements to unlock new Vivariums isn’t overly complicated, you just need to keep on doing quests. Each Vivarium is unlocked after completing a related quest, either main or side. Here is a list of all Vivariums and the quests you have to complete to unlock them:

Vivariums Quests
Default Vivarium The Elf, the Nab-sack, and the Loon
Swamp Vivarium Foal of the Dead
Grassland Meadow Vivarium Phoenix Rising
Coastal Vivarium The Plight of the House-Elf

It will take you quite a while to get access to all of them, but you probably won’t find and tame all the species before unlocking the fourth Vivarium anyway. If you do find yourself in a situation where a new species you find is much better than any of the ones you have in Vivarium, you can make room. It is worth noting that to do this, you will need to sell one of the species already in Vivarium. You can

sell your animals at Brood and Peck
and buy some useful ingredients or items at the same time.

This way, you can breed animals and sell them to earn a lot of money. The best method is to set aside a separate Vivarium and place three animals of four species in it, making sure that there is a male and a female of each species. Then place a female and a male of the same species in a breeding pen and wait for the result. Out of 13 species, you will not be able to breed only the Phoenix because there is only one of them in the game.
