Fans of the Galaxy Ranger faction have a lot to look forward to. Honkai: Star Rail recently teased the release of Rappa, its latest 5-star Imaginary-Erudition unit coming to Version 2.6. Apart from being a rapping ninja, her other interesting traits include being a Galaxy Ranger. Players got to know this mysterious faction better during the Penacony arc when Rappa’s colleague, the cyborg cowboy Boothill was introduced. They may look like a disorganized group of vigilantes, but their biggest achievements suggest that there’s more to them than meets the eye.

The factions in Honkai: Star Rail are often brought together by the Path that their members follow. A Path is an ideal or philosophy that characters follow for guidance, blessings, and sometimes, power. The Galaxy Rangers tread the Path of The Hunt with the Xianzhou Alliance but have vastly different objectives for following it.

The Known Beliefs and History of Honkai: Star Rail’s Galaxy Rangers

The Galaxy Rangers are a group of highly skilled fighters who seek justice through individual deeds, which often involve hunting down violent evildoers. As such, it only makes sense that they’re followers of Lan, the Aeon of The Hunt. The Xianzhou Alliance follows this path to eradicate the Denizens of Abundance. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Rangers follow The Hunt to pursue and take down evildoers by any means necessary. Both causes are worthy in the eyes of Lan.

The Core Values of Galaxy Rangers

The Galaxy Rangers are individualistic, so they often have varying beliefs. However, they do strictly follow two core tenets:

  • Never kill the innocent
  • Never bully the weak

Galaxy Rangers rarely communicate with one another, but if there’s anything that can bring them together, it’s the fall of one of their comrades. Each Ranger has a bullet relic that shoots out a flare if a Ranger has died or needs immediate help. Those who see the flare and recognize it will travel from all over the universe to come to their fellow Ranger’s aid. Boothill used his flare during the final fight against Sunday in Penacony for this purpose.

The Rise, Fall, and Resurgence of the Galaxy Rangers

Not much is known about the history of the Galaxy Rangers, apart from three remarkable events involving clashes against the Antimatter Legion and disgraced members of the Genius Society.

  • Operation Zulo: The Galaxy Rangers managed to kill the powerful Lord Ravager Zulo, an emanator of destruction and a renowned leader of the Antimatter Legion. A Nameless-turned-Ranger called Tiernan helped out in this effort, which involved manipulating the deadly four-winged insect colony of The Swarm to attack Zulo’s fleet.
  • The Defeat of Gaius the Usurper: Gaius was the successor to Emperor Rubert, a sentient computer and Genius Society member. This self-imposed ruler eradicated organic civilizations in the pursuit of replacing them with his “perfect and precise” Intellitrons. Gaius was to continue his legacy until he was thwarted by the Galaxy Rangers. However, it’s unknown how they defeated Gaius.
  • Dr. Primitive’s Rebellion: Dr. Primitive, #64 of the Genius Society, planned a project that would “return the ancestors of Vonwacq,” though the possible result of this plan is still unknown. The Galaxy Rangers put a stop to his scheme, protecting Vonwacq’s ecosystem. However, Dr. Primitive somehow escaped capture and remains on the run.

The Galaxy Rangers’ activities mellowed down after their encounter with Dr. Primitive. Rumors say that the latter took his revenge and turned some of the members into apes. However, Boothill disproves this claim. Plus, many rangers responded to his call during the Penacony arc.

Boothill’s Revenge Against the IPC

Boothill is currently executing his revenge plan against Oswaldo Schneider, the IPC’s Marketing Development Director for the latter’s possible involvement in the annihilation of his tribe. The cyborg cowboy disrupted the IPC’s operations in Pier Point in pursuit of Schneider, leading to him being hunted by the corporation as well. Penacony’s epilogue saw him confront the IPC executive Aventurine to find a way to reach Oswaldo. Despite their individualistic nature, the Galaxy Rangers seem to get their best results when they’re working together. As such, it would be interesting to see Rappa or their leader La Mancha play a part in Boothill’s revenge plot.
