Drawing inspiration from Horizon Forbidden West’s high-quality graphics, Nixxes and Guerrilla Games worked together to elevate Horizon Zero Dawn to a similar standard. Nixxes’ Art Director, Oscar Stegehuis, based his enhancements on the original concept art, boosting the richness of foliage, lighting, and terrain, and improving the look of settlements and landscapes while keeping the spirit of the original game intact.

According to Burgers, the project brought in co-developers Weaseltron and Stellar Entertainment for their expertise. Weaseltron handled the technical infrastructure for the Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster PC version, developed rendering tools, and implemented remaster technology, while Stellar Entertainment focused on improving ambient lighting, cloud effects, and landscape details. The remaster includes various accessibility features from Horizon Forbidden West, broadening its appeal and making it easier for more players to enjoy it.

The announcement of the remaster sparked some controversy, with fans questioning the need for it and speculating it might be just a cash grab. Yet, for those excited to return to Horizon Zero Dawn or for newcomers discovering it, this remaster provides a renewed chance to explore its world.
