In House Flipper 2, players take on the role of a rookie flipper and foreman to renovate houses in a new location called Pinnacove. However, there are many changes and differences in House Flipper 2 compared to House Flipper 1 that fans of the simulation video game franchise may be keen to know more about, including various improvements and additions to the original.

In a recent interview with Game Rant, Frozen District Producer Jakob Bujas spoke about the main differences between the House Flipper 1 and House Flipper 2 simulation video game experiences, including its new tools and game mode. Bujas also explained the various improvements to tool mechanics and graphics in House Flipper 2.

The original House Flipper contained a single, story-driven game mode where players gradually gain new tools as they take on bigger jobs. In comparison, House Flipper 2 is split into two game modes, with Sandbox Mode being added in addition to its Story or “Flipper” mode. Bujas described the Sandbox game mode as a “level design mode”, where “players have the same tools as our level designers.” It lets players create and share their own houses via an inbuilt mod.io system, plus create jobs for other players to complete. It also includes new tools and features, such as a Trash Generator to dirty the landscape, plus landscaping tools. As Bujas explained, these give players new ways to create what they want through new systems, such as changing heights of structures.

The main difference between House Flipper and House Flipper 2 is that you don’t have hard-coded floor levels. In House Flipper one, you had three meters per floor – three meters in height. In House Flipper 2, it’s up to you how high the floor will be.

Additionally, Bujas mentioned players can create bunkers or basements underground using a terrain sculpting tool, plus also use a new “edit wiring tool” to “connect switches to any lamp that you’ve got.” Intriguingly, House Flipper 2‘s Story Mode also includes houses with basements, suggesting many of the Sandbox Mode features will likely appear within and complement houses encountered in the main story. In the original House Flipper, some players even found an unexpectedly scary game experience when opening up empty houses and closed doors. Therefore, basements and bunkers could provide another creepy dimension to the house-flipping experience and tick off many fans’ wishlists.

Another core difference in House Flipper 2 that Bujas mentions is the improvements to existing tool mechanics. Some tool upgrades include changes to paint roller size, allowing players to paint large areas faster. The popular Flipper tool is also upgraded, which Bujas described now lets players clone items, including their style. Bujas also discussed improvements to grid placement mechanics and furniture snapping systems, letting players place items much more precisely. Yet, there are also additional details fans might spot in the trailer, like the ability to stack items, such as books, plus add extra little environmental details to complete real-life tasks like placing clothes on hangers and putting items in the fridge, which Bujas explained “provides some life in your interior.”

In Story Mode, you’ve got pretty much the same tools as House Flipper, but with a lot of upgrades.

Furthermore, Bujas spoke about the visual and graphical improvements in House Flipper 2 compared to the original, describing the changes as “somewhere between House Flipper and The Sims.” Overall, House Flipper 2 looks to add many additions and details to potentially create an even more immersive and varied home design game experience for fans and new players alike.

House Flipper 2 releases on PC on December 14, 2023, and is planned for release on PlayStation and Xbox consoles on March 21, 2024.
